Just a standard add on for the board. think Dubway knows about it already, I mailed him a while back, but he was balls deep in his masters.
kind of like facebook "liking" ?

Yep, some sites have positive and neg karma.
It`s just a way of rating threads and posters.

And if karma falls below a certain level, people are banned from using starting new threads? That would force them to give constructive feedback to other users in order to get their karma score back up again, to the point where they could create their own threads.

hell implement the karma/rep along with a COUPLE sub forums. Deep, House, Bro. Misc. It would be pretty simple. we all know what could fall into those categories and people would appreciate it alot more then sifting through 4 pages to find something that isnt a Katy perry remix.

That Karma thing sounds amazing. Also dividing it in to a couple of sub forums like on for free download one for feedback and one for forthcoming releases as you said would definitely help stearing it up a little. But maybe then some subforum will get lots of visits and another almost no visits?

well, i dont think it would matter on the views, as long as people get a general idea of what they are going in there too look for, it would make things a lot easier.

Alot of people do this on the dubs forum actually. What he means is you start a rolling thread, and update it with new tunes...

Something like
http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=98231
http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=189680

I support this fully. Keeps things tidy. We seem to be all about building mass threads in the production forum about similar topics, like the how to make this sound thread, filth bass thread, why not have this same attitude towards dubs and keep similar threads (ie same producer) as long rolling ones?

Would also be really awesome if I could link people to dubs threads from off the forum. The way its configured right now, the dubs forum is only visible to registered, logged in members.

Like I said, my primary complaint is that its all producers over there and no listeners, if there were no restrictions on who could view the dubs forum, and we could link our threads off site, it would both increase general listeners, encourage more people to visit the dubs forum regularly, and generally drive more traffic to the site here.

Its a really small, practical step to improving the listener to promotion ratio there and get more people heard.

Some good ideas in here.

I think the main problem here is the huge volume of new posts as others have stated. With an increase in the number of posts, I see there are two routes to go, organization, or restriction of who posts. So there are a few options:

ORGANIZATION

1) Subforums - Great idea IMO. When I go to the dubs section it's nice when some people list tracks in the "Artist - Name of Tune (Sub Genre)", but lots of people don't, so it gets messy and painful. At least with the subforums people could post their tunes in places where like minded people could find the tunes.
2) Rep - Ace idea in my opinion. Not sure what options there are on the forum settings, but I would love to see it so that you can only start new threads if your rep is above a certain level. Or even having it set so that people with a positive rep have their threads posted in the first half of the page, and people with a negative rep get their threads posted in the latter half of the page. It would be a nightmare coding wise, but just a suggestion.
3) Rolling threads, 1 per artist - Great idea, but I'm not sure how well it would be enforced, and how it could be. For example, lets say that Bro15 posts a few tracks, and then decides to change his name to DubSteppa97. Then he starts a new thread, and changes his mind about his alias again. It would decrease the amount of posts initially, but it could still be super saturated with shit pretty quickly.

Restriction

1) Subforums - Have a "everyone can post" dub section, and a "high enough rep" or "enough posts" dub section. It would be a logistical nightmare deciding who goes where though, and probably quite a bit of people circle jerking for rep or for posts.
2) Minimum post count - I used to be a fan of this idea, but I remember joining a couple forums where you have to post 50 times before you have access to certain things (like starting threads) and changed my mind. Sure it makes sure people are contributing to the community, but it also forces them to post useless things even if they don't want to. For new users who prefer to lurk and just post when they have useful advice this would be a nightmare, they'd essentially be forced into becoming Chad :P

In my opinion I'd like to see mostly an organizational approach, and maybe even a slight restrictive approach. For example, have a mixture of subforums and rep would be great. Or even rep and rolling threads. If for example, we had a rep system in which you see what the OP's rep is before clicking on their rolling thread, we would better be able to guage which peoples rolling threads have half decent tunes, and which ones have the shitty "I made this in a day and it's my second tune ever" threads.

Everyone whos saying this, that would require installing PHPbb plugins, which dubway has made very clear in the past he wont do.

Ok, karma system comments aside for the time being...
