Re: 3D PRINTING
maybe I'm lacking the type of vision needed to buy into this...ubertechno
and I should just leave it
figure out how to make bread and - high quality sheep cheese
I wanted to have a community studio where kids could come and make art..
- but I get to school and they want to teach me this...
they tell me I won't be able to afford the insurance on a community studio..
so - design a coffee maker to match a lexus.
I'm going to go stuff my face with donuts now...tears running down pudgy donut stuffed cheeks

Re: 3D PRINTING
you still havent broached why you think a 3drpinting cant print more material to make more printers?
brostep
Re: 3D PRINTING
because the resin, time, and energy you use is too expensive to make it worthwhile.
it's cheaper, quicker and more energy effecient to buy one.

Re: 3D PRINTING
I seen this in a newspaper about 8 years ago. It was showing how you could print chess pieces from models you can download online.
Eventually this will become the norm.
Wait until nano engineering is widespread. That's when shit gets interesting!

This is a wind-up - but I'll play along...incnic wrote:you still havent broached why you think a 3drpinting cant print more material to make more printers?
you can only make things in wax, plastic, metal, and ceramic - with these machines...
It's a rapid prototyping technology -BUT they are trying to make the object produced the actual product..
exp. to machine a die to produce a watch face...it costs about 15K

Re: 3D PRINTING
When they are able to break and object into atoms and reproduce those atoms then anything will be possible. But something like that is dangerous so chances are we'd never see something like that because Government would lock it away ... until some clever kid discovers it.
It'll be like startrek where things appear from the air.

Re: 3D PRINTING
Because then the printer would be like god, making stuff up out of nothing.incnic wrote:you still havent broached why you think a 3drpinting cant print more material to make more printers?
Re: 3D PRINTING
There is a 3d printer that can print 90% of its own parts. The remainder are the print head and belts. But it still needs a resource. it could make itself but it wouldn't know where to get the materials. when it does then its all theirs.

It's already been said that you need material to print materialincnic wrote:zerbaman wrote:Couldn't you just print the material?Anjin wrote:I wish it did but i dont thinks so. You'd still have to get the materials and lets say further down the line you can print anything, its a hot day so you print a t shirt and ice cream, maybe there'd be different software for printing different products.
Unless there was a big overhaul of the economy, I think someone would find a way to make money out of this.
^ this
what is to stop you from printing more materials?
it could feasibely do wood, metal and concrete
buildings could print themselves into concrete
Re: 3D PRINTING
dont understand why it can use bits of itself to make more of itself
like the grains that grow organically then stop and split and get used again
the machine can make its own materials

Re: 3D PRINTING
because it can't change the atomic properties of the starting materials. I don't understand how you don't get this (unless you literally have no idea what elements etc. are)
Re: 3D PRINTING
Grains don't grow themselves. They require sunlight, carbon dioxide, minerals, etc to grow.incnic wrote:dont understand why it can use bits of itself to make more of itself

Can't tell whether you're trolling or not.
Re: 3D PRINTING
The grains aren't organic, they're synthetic. They don't grow, the NEED to be made. You're insisting on dividing by zero
Re: 3D PRINTING
do you think we could maybe print something that could see the glaringly obvious fact that nic is trolling? (as per usual...)
