@Maniac Harmonic : At 1:30 the voice sounded strange to me but still cool. I like it at 2:55 we clearly see the progression, it gets harder and harder. At 5:30 the vocals are sick ! The different synth/sounds are really well melted together. I especially love the guitars part ( the last too ). Great work man, it took time but you've done a really god job to my mind. ( I apologize for the mistakes i'm French ). !

@Resik21 : The drum sounds really good, but you should work a bit more on the "melody" of the bass, which is repeated many many times. I also think that at 3:18 the bass stoops too suddenly :/

@Swaggr : I like your drums especially at 1:40, then i like the sound but maybe your "patch" of notes are a bit long without variations ( 8 bar i think ? ).

Hello, i'm new here and i'm quite new to producing dubstep (with Reason 5) : ~5 months.
Here is a track that i've done, I would really like to hear some feedback, help or whatever. :D

@ Harmonic, Love the vocals!! nice work on the intro really sweet vibe. wow i really dig the crazzy vocals after the drop. good atmosphere in this tune. yea bro nice tune, i would try to bring the vocals after 2.20 up in the mix a bit i can't really hear whats being said, but really sick tune none the less

@resik, need to make ya drums a bit bigger, and ya bass line is a very old sound, not much else i can say, read up as much as you can about how to mix down, EQ and compress, keep going hard bro, you still have a good vibe going on here.

@Manny , nice drums bro, could prob come down a DB or 2 but sounds fat as, mean drop, sounds very much like excision sort of bass line, nothing new, but sounds cool bro, i would have a go at making some original bass sounds, mixed with your production you could make some big tunes bro.

@lightshapers, big tune bro, very well produced, drums sound mean as, digging ya bass line, you have a Nero well to you sound, keep going hard bro.

Heres my tune, any feedback is much appreciated .......Soundcloud

@ Darkdubz. Great track track man, loving your drum work. Only thing i would recommend is adding a sub bass layer to your main bodies to fatten it up a bit. Liking to spooky kinda melody aswell man. Good work :)

@Lightshapers, Brilliant track man! Loving the vibe im getting from this :) Liking the soft synth and padded sections. Cannot fault it so far man, great track!

@Mannyyyyy, Amazing drum work in my opinion, really does sound punchy as hell. Liking the transformerish feel to it aswell.

adambrown666 : very good, I love the massive thing, its not even ennoying after it repeats itself the 8th time, I suppose if you add few more rythmic phrases with massive it will be a proper complete track, the pad thing is good as well even though I dont really like such pads on their own.

darkdubz : The tune is great, but we're here for critics, so ill say that it lacks some dynamics, i believe because some phrases are too long, love the vocal thingy ) !

I Am Cook : I see what you're trying to do, try to swithch to different daw, when I started (half a year ago) i used reason 5 as well, but NI Massive is just so much easier to use ... give it a go man )

@alexeyhermann dig the sub really well produced but dont really feel the second part its heavy; but dont know the sub was so nice in the beginning expected more like a dungeon sound

@adambrown666 dont really feel the drums and midrange bass ,sub and melody i like maybe try to include some more spaces when the melody ends like hi hat and midrange bass breaks

@darkdubz overall arrangement is good but seems little bit sharp in the hi ends ,love the drumrolls, yeah maybe bring midrange little bit down sub little bit up

@i am cook somehow this got the groooove haha but dig the first part much more than the hi pitched melody one, personaly wouldnt go for the hard drop ;wobbling reece is so nice in the beginning

this one is quite different but maybe some can feel where i want to go with it

This is a little tune I've been working on, still needs work, but I'd appreciate it if I could get any feedback on it, technical if possible.

Thank you :)

cook - you're bringing that fire! seriously I have nothing to add at all, that bass is too dope
dark - nice vocals man, and holy mother of god I was not ready for the drop
bud - nice, chill, ambient, I like the atmosphere

I wish I could contribute more towards your guy's tracks, I just don't have much knowledge in producing
I changed up a few things on my track, I think it makes it sound a lot better. Opinions?

@Mannyyyyy : Well, GOOD MORNING! I love the little bits of space at the end of the bars with just the snare reverb carrying over. Like the frantic drumming in the drop too. Loving your Reese work (what you using incidentally?)

@lightshapers: Really liking this Descent track, musical, reminds me of Feed Me, the only criticism would be the organ pad sounds too distorted and it's clashing with the perc (snare particularly). I'm listening on my monitor speakers and it sounds to me like you need to notch to give the snare room to breath. Like the little vocal/vocoder effect too.

@wizeguy: I'd try taking out that conga/woodblock sound for a bit, or tweak the pattern a bit, it doesn't move around enough for me.

@swaggr: Your kick needs looking at from an EQ perspective, and I bet it's clipping. The hats are also too high in my opinion (sounds a little 80's, which may be what you were going for?)

@manic harmonic: Props for doing something really different. I'd pull the hats down just a bit to give the rap space to be heard. The lead bass sound can come up a little. In fact, just dropping the hats will give everything more room to be heard. Great variation in general, really interesting track musically.

@darkdubz: Theremin/50's sci-fi sounds FTW! Snare 'verb slightly too long for me. Only critique would be the sub seems to be getting lost. (I still love Speyside btw - dirty dirty percussion, I still dig the hell out of that snare, sounds all metallic)

@alexeyhermann: Little micro-edit cuts/loops are nice. The ticking clock instead of a hat is a nice touch. As are the panning amen's. Bass work is good too - full and interesting. You've got a lot of atmosphere in this track for sure, love to hear it finished.

@resik: For a starting producer, great work, you've got all the right ideas for sure. My advice, don't sweat the mixdown and crap like that right now, work on your instrumentation and musical ideas. The only criticism is that the lead bass sound get's a little repetitive in tonality, you might want to look at a different sound.

@iamcook: The organ pad is highly resonant, look to EQ'ing some of that out of it, or just change the filter Q in whatever synth you are using. I like the progression frankly

@iamcook: I like the idea, try to beef up your sounds, and mabye get some reverb on that organ-pad. Otherwise, it is a good structured and sounding track. I know it is hard to get full sounds with Reason, but I finally found ways, like duplicating the synth you want to widen and panning one copy to the left and one to the right, which tricks the listener into thinking that the sound is wide and phat.

@resik I'm liking this, chilled and the synths are well made, I don't really have anything bad to say about it, It sounds pretty much finished :)

@bud Really nice and deep, liking it. The production is good :)

@darkdubz Wow, sounding amazing! Really well produced, and those bass sounds are top notch, great job with that one.

Here is my track that I am working on, I still have a lot to do with it, but any thoughts on the general feel would be great! I am working on the melodic section at the end, and the intro, but I just looped the drop out. Thank you.

cheers all. will check your stuff a bit later. @deafblind - agreed i do need to tweak the mixdown a bit, overdid the bass level a little which kind of compromised the rest of it, and saturated it all a little too much which isnt really helping. can be a bit impatient sometimes when i should give my ears a rest before polishing

@resik - keep at it, sounds like youve got a reasonable idea about structure but you should work on your sound design a bit more. can learn a lot from youtube tutorials, and try studying how presets you like are put together, guarentee it will help loads

@BudSpencerton Love the effect created here, really emotive.... i would say the sub is a bit too low, but I don't think it is, its just bordering on muddy because of how low it is. I would get another sine wave and add it an octave above just to give it definition. it doesn't have to be that loud, and you may want to buss both bass' together, but you'll know how much better it sounds when you hear it. Really different sound though, reminds me of an old mayan ruin I saw somewhere lol

@resik

Good early attempt. Hard to tell which direction you're trying to go in though.

If you want it to be hard heavy shit I would tell you a few simple things to set you off. Dont pan your rides/hats, but EQ all of the mid range out of them... Doctor P's remix of Blame - Star is a good example of how you want your rides to sound. Try playing with chorus as well. Also try some shorter stabby sounds and play some notes with your melody. This creates pace, which you will eventually use to create rhythm. Originally it was the offbeat stabs you would always hear in dub music and reggae, but if you listen to most of Flux's tracks (Bass cannon and Stinkfinger are the first two I can think of), rapidly playing the same few notes (called an arpeggio) can have the same effect. you're also gonna have to hit up youtube and study making your bass dirtier with some distortion!

If you want it to be mellow on the other hand you might have to speak to someone else, I've been pretty focused on Purple and Brostep atm lol

@deafblindmusic

Really interesting intro, love the drop, drums are solid, the snare is light but it works and the composition is spot on. The bassline is good but that wobble your using from the drop in sounds a little light. It sounds great the way it is as it drops but as soon as you put it next to all the other heavier sounds it gets pushed far back. Second drop is moster, in a kind of industrial movie music way tho. Really interesting track tho, thanks for sharing!

@Noisestorm Mix is cleaner and more spaced than I am after 3 showers in bleach and chlorine... Sounds are large too, that sound on the first bar the triple time one has a bit too much mid somewhere in it, but maybe thats just my headphones resonating. I might have to PM you to find out how you do what you do tho, because that mix is clean as fuck!

DISCLAIMER: I'm in the middle of moving house, and lots of my stuff has gone ahead of me so I have no speakers and only have borrowed headphones. I could be totally wrong about everything I just said lol.

Soundcloud

This is mine, my first voyage into the world of BRO. You can probably smell my influences all over so lets just focus on the mix and composition, I'll get experimental when I'm confident with the tools I have in that genre!

Sorry its a clip, but I haven't got close to finishing the rest!

thanks for all the input guys! :h:
and as many have noticed, I wasn't leaning towards any style of dubstep when I made this. I just sat my ass down and got to work and this was the product of it lol.
And there's so much stuff I need to learn, guess it's time to hit the tutorials

@ darkdubz nice track i like the drum work but they could probally be a bit more punchy.
@ budspencertron - I really enjoy the forestfloor track i was working on something similar not to long ago nice vibes

Heres the same sample i posted earlier polished a little but I still think its pretty rubbish wish i could make it sound better. However I did try alot of different patches note variations ect and I found something i think sounds alright(the second section after the soundless space) let me know what you think about both of these variations and any tips you have for improving the sound or useing a different sound that may fit better. Really trying to make this work but cant seem to find something that sounds really good.
