Re: headphone reccomendations for a project studio?
AKG K240
Sony MDR-7509
Speakers may be a better choice though, headphones are notoriously dodgy for mixing.

Re: headphone reccomendations for a project studio?
It depends, headphones are useful but if you can stay away from them, then do so. The reason for this mainly is the accuracy of stereo imaging, the second reason would be that it's hard to tell if your volume is at a healthy level for your ears or not, which has resulted in tinnitus (ear ringing) for quite a few headphone users.
From my own experience, I could recommend AKG, the K-171 was the one I used and the results were alright, not exceptional but still good for monitoring. There's also the Focusrite VRM box which is supposed to do monitor simulations for headphone users, this could help with evaluating your mix-down, as it provides a lot of different speaker situations/acoustics.

audio technica ath-m50's
sennheiser hd280 pros
i would chose between the ath-m50's and the akg's. i have the hd280 pros and they are very nice but they do seem like they lack a bit in the bass department.

Off-note, I've been using the search bar to try and find a good thread on speaker accuracy all morning, all i can find are threads on monitor/headphone quality.
If anyone can point this lost soul in the right direction, i'd appreciate the help.
Just to be a little more specific on my issue, i was mixing a track and it sounded find at my home setup but once i played it in my car the mix was complete shit. This is the second track the mix has been way off from what i think is the speakers i'm producing on. Btw, im using a shitty 30watt guitar amp for my mid-upper range. Then i have a decent sub that was previously used for movies/dvds.

Re: headphone reccomendations for a project studio?
sound warrior! wassup man! Sennheiser HD 280 Pro are what I'm currently using, but if you're willing to pay more, you can get much better quality stuff.

My english teacher gave me a weird look when I mentioned that as the musical instrument I played. Like the wtf stare. I had to give her the 'wiki wiki' dj motion to confirm what i meant.
Re: headphone reccomendations for a project studio?
I got some beyerdynamic DT880 pro 250 Ohm headphones that I use exclusively (living in an apartment and all). Love them, but just as important is a decent source. Find out what rating your headphone jack is (max Ohm output) and go from there. i got Native Instruments Audio Kontrol 1 because it said the max headphone out power was 600 Ohm, so I know it would do the job regardless of what set of cans I got.
Honestly though, I would probably get the AKG K240 mKii. Seem like a good balance of price and performance - I would get a set if I wasn't broke.
Best, man.

Re: headphone reccomendations for a project studio?
Use Beyerdynamic 770 pros for bass and general mixing. But I have a killer pair of Sonys that I actually like to listen on, have very sharp and revealing highs. The Sonys are great for finding little problems, errors, etc. When I have to use phones, I switch constantly between these two. I really cannot mix on headphones at all. Can never get even the volume levels right, let alone tonal relationships.
Best of luck sound warrior.

Re: headphone reccomendations for a project studio?
I would suggest Audio Technica ATH-M50's.
They are a VERY fair price for the quality.
I have $300 Headphones, and plenty of more expensive ones than the ATH-M50's but not one has surpassed the quality of them.
The highs are crisp, the mids are very solid, and the bass response is incredible, you can hear everything you are doing, even with the sub bass, which many headphones won't allow you to hear. And the sound level is neutral, sound the high/mid/low levels are all even so you get a solid sound.
They retail for around 160 or 170 in USD I believe.

I really like my Shure S R H 840s
Flat response, great quality playback.
They make a 940 now, if you're willing to shell out some extra cash.
Take care brother!
