STEMS!

Post by Matt4759 » Tue Aug 09, 2011 7:15 am

How do you guys find stems and vocal acapellas to make remixes/tracks from?
Personally, if i have a vocal track, most inspiring thing ever. Makes me want to make songs so bad.

Ask the original artist for their stems.
...in my opinion

:p
What about a band/artist that you don't know?
I've been trying to find stems from some post-hardcore bands. Impossible.

Have you tried emailing the bands?

Yeah, i've emailed three bands now. Problem is, i have no following, and have only been producing for around 6 months. So, never a reply.

Just take it one step at a time mate!
Since you are still fairly new I suggest you either 1. find a local aspiring singer and track him/her or 2. find some acapellas online and start remixing those until you break in your producing name a bit.

I'm not trying to promote myself here but I found this Axwell & Dirty South acapella on the interwebz and decided to remix it! (It's in my sig if you wanna check it out) That's an example of how easy it is to find some on the internet if you look hard enough :)

Just start small and start to build 8)

hey matt, i hardly ever do self promo kind of stuff on here but go check out the remix contest community from the label i work for.
http://www.fixtremix.com

really cool electronic rock artists to remix.. lots of great material to work with.

also, check out the NIN remix site, and check out indaba music as well.

and ya, bands arent going to give up stems for random people emailing them. i do official remixes for bands and its hard enough to get stems from their producers, even with the label and their management telling them to. the WORST stems i have ever had to deal with are from the biggest artists ive remixed. go figure.. you would think that wouldnt be the case...

The NIN stems are great, but ufortunately none of the older stuff off downward spiral is available. But I've found decent stuff in these forums:

http://www.acapellas4u.co.uk/
http://www.soundarea.org/
http://www.jamglue.com/
http://www.worksessions.com/
http://www.remixboard.com/

And for good measure :
