Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
acian- filtered intro is very cool, the melody/synth is good quality;; but not my cup of tea ; im not into the happier stuff ; really like the kick, snare needs to be more upfront ; that bassline at the end really left me wanting more ; finish that up.
I Am Cook -the synth has a nice pattern to it ; its a little too loud during the intro, bring the sub up, the drop at 46 gets a little confusing for me maybe yu can use the wobs at 1:00 first.
swaggr- i like the melody. if you have glide on it, i would bring it down a bit but then again it sounds fine the way it is and im speaking from personal preference, i like the 4 by 4 switch up, the bass/synth could use a little more high end in my opinion.
thanks to those of you who gave me fdbk; i took it into consideration; tried fixing the intro but its still far from perfect, i am cook- i tried pitching up the octave, wasnt a good idea lol. acian ; i up'd the sub its at about 70% now and i tried changing the yoi to a more gritty sound; it wasnt bad but itll take some time to get it right so im just uploading it as is with the original yoi's.. without any further ado..heres the track again with an alternative intro

thanks for the feedback, atm im trying to just get some heavy kicks and snares as a start. i checked out a bunch of sample sites and all the free packs have loads of drums, but its hard to find a decent kick, no thump to them or anything, so i guess i gotta try to make some kicks myself or just buy some nice ones to stack up. anyone got a decent tutorial on making kicks with live?
and definitely practicing on making new bass, need more high end stuff

Yes, different vocal takes - that's how the vocal came from Adam Audioscape, there's too much delay on the vocal though (noticed when I mono-checked it) so I am going to reduce that. Agreed on the snare builds, I am going to be going back to adding some additional flourishes on the build's (rising synths etc) so I can set those back on the subsequent 1/2 drop. Cheers for the feedback!Ascian wrote:deafblindmusic - VERY well produced intro, voice sticks out well and great panning effects... Seems like different vocal takes, I assume it came like this? Snare build is sick, a little too aggressive the second time it happens maybe. Bass it ridonculous though.. Really digging that

@ascian : Digging the build on this WIP, kick is HOOOOOOJ, and the snare is a little backed off, liking the vocal (where's that from?). And just as the drop comes...it stops...dammit! Huge huge bass, I want to hear more

@rebel : Sub definitely up there now, might be too upfront. YOI is good where it is. Perc is good. I like the intro sounds, although I think you could explore the arpeggio synth a little more to build tension.

Just a thought. We should include the name of the WIP we are feedbacking on in the response for those of us like myself, swaggr, mthrfnk, wizardd, etc, who post several tunes, that way the comments are clearly understood about which song they are for. It can get a bit confusing.
@mthrfnk - Ecstasy: Love the intro. I need to get better at intros. Love that bass, so smooth, so sexy. The highend thing at the second bit is too loud and I personally find it irritating. Another sound might work much better there. Great song though. Love the drums btw.
@FluidMoShun - Ain'tNo: The wobble is a little weak, and everything a little quiet. It needs more punch, and a decent more going on, but it's a pretty good start.
@jrisreal - sample: I like the sound a lot. It's hard to tell by itself, but I think it would go great mixed into a song the right way. Great sound design.
@Wizardd - Voyage: Lots of improvement. Love the vocal break. Still only suggestion is working to get the basses all on the same level. Some still get lost in the background.
@ Rebel - FromDarkness: I like the gated sound at the beginning. The bass sounds like its underwater, no me gusta. I like the sequencing, but the synth itself needs improvement. Excellent start though.
@Swaggr - NewWip1: The portamento on the intro is a little sloppy and it looses some clarity, should be an easy fix though. I like the melody though. Yup, the drums could use some punch. I'm loving the back and forth between the bass and melody. Also just according to my own tastes, I think the bass could use a little more highend harmonics of some sort; it's range is a bit narrow.
@I Am Cook - Tetanos: Nice drums, great build up. The first bass pad at the drop need to be stronger, and the wobble afterwards is overwhelmed by the lead at the top. I really REALLY like the grooves you've got in this, and the sounds are great too, the just need help playing nicely with each other.
@ascian - : Like the arpeggio bit, good vocals, really love the atmosphere. These lyrics remind me of Darren Styles. A bit too much
He even has a song named Skydivin, but don't worry I won't tell anyone.
@ Rebel - FromDeath: Like this. Bass is still too weak for me. Still sounds underwater like the last one. Good start though.
This is the newer version of this track, and I am much more satisfied with it. I edited the synth and the LFO's and I mixed it a little better this time. I went for something a little more sinister/dark. All comments are appreciated.

@Ematyael - i quite liked the drums in the intro but after the drop they are pretty much non existent, definitely work on your mixdown.
@Rebel - nice idea, your kick and snare sound really dull tho layer some more on... snare could do with a higher one. sounds a lot better once the hi hats and shit come in, i dont reckon you should have it without them at the drop as it lacks energy without.

@Ematyael - Good suggestion re: track naming in the response...sooooo
@Ematyael : ScaryMonster-1, for some reason I am hearing some dirty metal undertones in this that I kinda like. Your perc has nowhere near enough upfront nature to it. The "horror show" keys are interesting, I think you should fiddle with those a bit more. Like the atmosphere in the dark voice, perhaps some delay to make it more interesting. The mixdown is kinda muddy and heavily limited.

Ok, definitely going to mix it better and bring the drums out a lot more. Drums are definitely a weak spot of mine.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
At Rebel: The intro is kinda cool, not my taste but for those who are into it, I'm sure they'll dig it. The song definitely has some swing to it, but maybe work on balancing everything out a little better. Don't know if you've mixed down at all, but the snare could use a little reverb. Maybe add some compression to that kick to make it fatter. The vocals could be taken down a semitone or two to balance with the intro. . It kind of sits on top of it imo. The wobble is good but a little generic. It sounds like the 1000000 other dubstep tunes out there and for me it's all about what stands out. Maybe add EQ to it to bring out some crazy shit it's got hidden underneath it or going back to your synth and add some more sound to it so it packs some oomph and stands out. Maybe some noise candy and shit like that would bring it to life. Keep up the good work for sure mang.
At Ematyael: Like the buildup but that bass dominates the rest of the track. It also doesn't have much swing to it, the drums are drowned out by the bass so there is no room to nod your head. It's like, it's just the bass and the bass doesn't have a pattern.
@wizeguy: This tune is the tits. Good mix, great atmosphere and some it sounds smooth, the drums are patterned very well also. The reverb is a very nice tough on the drums too. I'm not really into the softer stuff, but I know good work when I hear it and that is good work. Only thing I can say is the song has to be short or it starts to get repetitive.
here is what i've gotten so far. It's changed alot since I put this up and I haven't added any effects to it (for example, I'm putting reverb on that opening synth during the mixdown). Any feedback would be great!

Wow, thanks for all the feedback on my various tracks guys, I'm gonna try and finish those I posted so far and clean them all up.
I also made 3 new tracks today, sadly none are dubstep (house & dnb). The third one is kinda shitty and mainly an effects test so I'll just post a link to that rather than the full SC player. I know they're not dubstep... but any feedback at all on these would be awsm. Also they were all made on headphones, not mastered, and unfinished etc.

Feedback for others:
@FluidMoShun: Like the sample and the initial wubs. The high pitched bit at the start kinda threw it off for me, it overpowered the vocals too much imo.
@deafblindmusic: Awsm intro and smooth vocals, the kicks got a bit weird before the drop though imo but after that everything went sick. Nice track, not much more I could say.
@jrisreal: V. nice, quite noisia-esque. Would be really nice made into a full track I think, I like the panning you have going on esepcially.
@wizardd: Nice intro and build up, really promising track.
@Rebel: Your buildup sounds good, and so does the sample but I was kinda underwhelmed with the drop even though i get your not going all-out-brostep style, I think it needs to hit harder on the first note. Btw thanks for saying my melody was beautiful
@Noisestorm: Your track is unavailable?
@Swaggr: Nice track, I agree what you said about drums, everything needs to be a bit heavier. The speed-up is a good effect too, prevents everything sounding looped. Also, yeah as mentioned there are loads of free samples of instruments out there, you don't have to go with paid-for packs. If the samples suck, try eq-ing the shit out of them or down pitching with some effects.
@I Am Cook: I liked your intro, but for me after the drop stuff starts getting weird until the main wubs kick in, like the glitched up bit just doesn't sound smooth to me. Other than that everything sounds good.
@Rebel v.2: Much nicer attempt than the previous intro, but I still think the drop needs something more.
@Ematyael: Sounds a bit aggresive to me, imo everything needs toning down and gelling together.
@Crow Steppa: I like your intro and drums, I was expecting some crazy drop but that fact there wasn't one seemed better when I heard the rest of the track, if that makes sense lol. Also bearshark is an awsm track name
Big post... sorry if I missed anyone who gave me feedback.
Thanks

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I've been wanting to make a dnb track for quite a while and just been playing with reeses so I think I'm gona continue this. Thanks for the encouragement, every comment appreciated, and yeah I'll work on hat variation and the mixdown and glitching up the bass a bit for more variation and add some more elements. I'll leave feedback for you all later when I get home.
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@mthrfnk -
1st - I absolutely love the build up. So chilled out. Although, and this is just an idea, try the single kick build up with a snare rather than a kick drum. Would love to hear this more progressed.
2nd - Intro is really cookie monsta. That reese bass is brutal. Snare could use a little more on the high end, but it got good punch. Love the bass at 1.50. Is that a sample of something breathing really fast? Could use some drum and bass hi hats in there, would give the track a lot more energy.
@Rebel - You might hate me for this but I think a rusko-ish industrial sounding wobble would suit this track perfectly. Has that rusko sort of feel. Build up was pretty intense, good job. Think with a rusko synth (similar to 0:53) and some mental sub bass this could be a banger.
@I Am Cook - I really like that snare just before the drop, sounds beefy. Nice variation in the drop. Kick could use a little more compression, maybe a low volume ride/crash or some hats would keep things moving nicely.
Soundcloud
MY WIP. All mixed on in-ear headphones so far so sorry if it soungs a bit...blergh. Working on a dubstep breakdown but it's not sounding how I'd like so far so I've left that out of this version.
Feedback appreciated

Hey guys, so here's basically the first song I've ever tried to put together. I started getting into FL Studio a few days ago and have just been looking at tutorials on youtube and browsing the forums while trying my take on creating little patterns.
Soundcloud
It's really messy and there's no progression but I'd like to know what you think. I hope this is the right thread.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Thanks for the feedback everyone, it's really helped me tweak the song. I'll try to return all the feedback, but sorry if I miss you.
@Emat: Make the sample at the start stand out more. The bass goes out on too much of a tangent I feel. I like the high pitched part, tho. Also, drums need to go up like the other guy said.
@MthrFnk: I really got into escape, real nice sounds. The reverse breathy sounding cymbal in the runner was cool at the start but sounded sorta silly during the main part ha. I liked when it switched back to the breathy sound and went back. The bass at 1:50 is good, too.
@swaggr: Sick melody. Bass and drums are neat, but they sound weak. Make the bass sound heavier.
Made the bass focus more on lower freqs and glitched it a few notches. I'm probably gunna switch the sample to a better version of the mp3 when I find one. Feedback before I flesh the tune out some more?

@fluidmoshun : Aint No Sunshine - dude, excellent idea! I want to hear heavier on the drop though, like much much heavier...but that's because I love the counterpoint of nice and subtle with monster. The lead sound kind kills the vibe, it's really loud. Percussion needs to come up a lot, snare needs more bite for my ear. Perc pattern is nice and clean though. Keep going!
