I saw one video of the BBC where an elderly West Indian gentleman talking about his son and grandson being picked on by the police before the riots but the reporter just wasn't interested and kept trying to make him talk about what he thought of the riot itself - in the end he just got pissed off and told her to 'have some respect for an' old West Indian negro and stop trying to make out he was a rioter' Unfortunately, it seems even the BBC don't dare possibly looking like they support anyone that doesn't think the rioters is just about 'criminality'...

Darcus Howe knows what he's doing, he is a professional writer and journalist himself, not just BBC having a go at a random old black man on the street.....thought it a bit shitty for him to be throwing in the age and race thing when she dared to ask if he has been involved in riots before (although she was being a knob too).

But yeah, BBC seemed to generally take the view of no support for rioters, and police not heavy enough....didn't seem very neutral.

Let me fill you in on some things.....We don't get the bbc via youtube clips. We have bbc tv in america, newsnight, all your tv shows, etc. We also get live House Of Commons debates on cspan TV. The telly has everything else. Come down off your "*headdesk* americans" antagonizing.

The BBC is generally a mouth piece for the tory ( we call it neo-con) diaspora. Sure its liberal at times, but in both these riots and the student demo's earlier this year...the anchors and their interviewing spin a tory bent bias.

you're both arguing the same thing really, but using culturally specific terms which is causing confusion.
as an outsider i just want to pour a bit of oil on troubled waters here.

as far as bias goes, the bbc spins the establishment line, which is conservative (with a small 'c' = not tory).
politically the bbc is Liberal, which is why Concervatives (capital 'C' = tories) and Labour politicians always get pissed off with it.

The BBC doesn't have a party bias so the word Tory is the problem here. The Tories are a political party (it's like calling the Republicans the GOP, I guess - a nickname.. actually, quite an insulting one but it's been accepted). I guess you're mixing up Tory/Conservative with conservative (small c). It tends to tow the 'official' line unless it's obviously false, but it's a mouthpiece for facts.. it's not allowed to have an opinion. It's also run by human beings so chose to work for the Beeb over commercial stations where they might make more money - a lot of Beeb journos actually tend to be a bit lefty (and definitely a bit liberal, which makes it a problem for Labour sometimes too) when you catch them on non-BBC business which is why it often cops flack from the right. It's also, essentially, a socialist institution. It's a PART of the left and most of it's increases in size/dominance have happened under Labour governments - all the talk since the Conservatives have been in power is to reduce it's size.

Either way, it's misleading to think that conservative and Tory mean the same thing. The BBC most definitely doesn't have a Tory bias, even if it comes across as 'conservative' at times. It's not Conservative or Tory in any shape or form.
