Wondering about dubstep origins

Post by 8thMoon » Mon Aug 15, 2011 12:44 am

[if there is a thread already relating to this post it below me=lazy no like to search]

I was just curious where did this new dubstep sound come into play like what were a few of the first songs/artists who did it
and by new sound I mean the wobbles

I know loefahs song Disko Rekah had wobbles I just don't know when it came out.

Well pretty much I am wondering when did dubstep go from "dubstep" to "brostep"

Dunno, I'd say brostep came from when people started focusing on making loads of wobbly sounds instead of arranging them creatively and trying to almost compete over it to the point where lost any groove or feeling.

Also where tearout dubstep sank into less of a style of music and more of a forumala.

Correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure the sound originated when Skream and Benga started producing way back when. they used to make tunes for DJ Hatchas mixes, and as skream put it "We were trying to make garage, but we just got it wrong". the sound was a garage spinoff that was more minimal and dark. Also the FWD nights in the velvet rooms were where most of the sounds were showcased and where the genre grew.

A good way to learn about the history would be to watch the documentary Bassweight

When the screechy dnb people came over and decided to make the same sound at 140 with halfstep drums with absolutely no swing or skip... That's when midrangey dubstep became "the thing" to kids

@Lectic, it goes back much further than that... Check the roots of dubstep cd and dubstep allstars vol1
