Loefah - Mud, bpm?

Post by oggmonster » Mon Aug 15, 2011 10:28 am

Hi there, does anyone know the exact bpm of this track? I've just started mixing and am finding it a tad hard to mix, but not sure if its me being a noob or whether i'm trying to mix at the wrong tempo.
Thanks.

try to find it out for yourself. every 1% is one bpm. try at -1, -2, -3, -4 and +1, +2, +3, +4... then you'll find out foryourself + feel more confident ;)

Yeh don't be trying to mathmatically work out bpms all the time, relax and listen to the music, speed it up if you need to, slow it if you need to. It'll make you a better dj and it'll be a lot more fun

if 200bpm, then 1% = 2bpm; if 100bpm, then 1% = 1bpm
for 140bpm this logically means a 1% shift results in a 1.4bpm decrease

so far the mathematics

shouldn't be so necessary when mixing dubstep only but i find this quite useful when mixing all sorts. i use it to get a general idea of bpm when i buy a tune and then i know what general speed to start mixing from and then adjust from there

if your mixing using a vinyl rip then you will never get it to drop in time because the intro has no hats or drums and vinyl rips speed up and slow down gradually..

yeah, there's like a soft "Paah" sound that I cue with on the vinyl. then the melody should drop right (not on the 1) You gotta do that one by ear, beatmatch in cue using a part w/ a beat and just make sure you're dead on, rewind, cue and it drops perfect. You gotta be brave and confident to play that track out. And good. If you have the trifecta, then DROP IT!! :) :Q:

Only if the track is exactly 100bpm. 1 bpm at around 140 is about 0.7%. (1 divided by 140 is about 0.0071)

in related news, has anyone ever heard Skreams remix of Loefahs 'Root' - which he mention in the mix tracklisting, at the bottom of this interview? http://www.boomkat.com/article.cfm?id=2

From that article:
Skream is just as direct, proclaiming "I don't think dubstep will ever go commercial" - but whilst there's no doubt he believes this, given the hub-bub surrounding his releases it might just be that he'll unwittingly prove himself wrong.

Describing the future of dubstep as "bigger subs 'n' bigger clubs", there remains a danger that coffee-table vigilantes will claim the genre and fuck it all up ala drum & bass. Whilst this currently seems unlikely, does Skream feel there's been any animosity within the scene towards him since 'Midnight Request Line' piqued the attention of a wider audience? "Not to my knowledge and I would do anything to spread the sound and create links in other scenes." Would this include remix work? "Yeah. I love remixes, I could honestly do them all day long!" Quick to give those around him credit, Skream's top-tips for the future are Quest and Ironsoul ("both big producers to watch out for"), as well as forecasting that "whilst Britain is where it originates from, dubstep will cross many borders. Take my word". Does this signal the perennial obsession for British music to crack the American market? "No not at all. I think dubstep will likely end up breaking boundaries without actually trying to".
Ha.

I heard some version that was different than the released tune, but it sounddd almost the same, only difference were extra synths. But they had that loefahish distorted sound, so i guess he just decided to take them out before the actual release

just listen to the pads at the start and imagine them over thee beat of the tune youre mixing into its not hard and just pitch up and down wildly allowing for it speeding up and slowing down not instantly and you will know if it sounds right

i mix it off the wax regularly and its fine...and im sure its a little faster rather than a little slower

if youre playing a digital file then just use ableton to timestretch it to 140 lol

and windowmaker i have legal 320s of mud and ruffage, they were available back in the day so he might have one of those rather than a rip
