Kromestar - Sub Meditation EP pressing problems?

Post by ufo over easy » Tue May 22, 2007 4:04 pm

Just got my copy of this and there's some absolutely fucking hideous crackling.. I've tested on both my turntables with two different pairs of carts, and it's nasty.. there aren't any marks on the records and it sounds like a pressing problem. Annoyingly it sounds worst on the two tunes I like, Zion and Rags :(

Anyone else had the same problem? Just wondering if it's worth getting the shop to replace it or if it's the same with everyone.

raargh, I swear what's the point in test presses if you're not even going to listen to 'em...

mine too, and apart from that the record sounds bad anyway, try mixing it with something else and you'll see the difference.. too bad, perhaps the label guys will offer us a 320 of it ???

Same here. Sensi Dub also had a crackly intro. I ripped them both to WAV then cleaned up the audio removed the crackles and the random pops. At least I got them clean on CD and when I play out loud sometimes it don't matter. Still a bummer though.

sometimes it can't be helped - even if TPs sound okay, condensation or other contaminants can find their way onto the stampers during the pressing process - so some of a run will be fine but others will be crackly. Unfortunately there's not much to be done about this, noone is going to check every record before it's sold.

As for the Southside releases, I own a few of the older ones and the pressings have never been the best imo.

if you've picked up a copy of a record which is crackly then you should take it back to the shop - they can then go back to the distributor, who obviously wouldn't be aware of the problem, and attempt to rectify the situation.

I'd always do this if I think I've got a problem with a record I've bought - then you can give the shop/distro, or even better the label, a chance to sort out a problem they might not have known about before...

people sell TPs whether they're good enough to sell or not cos they've spent the money on them and people will buy them. if ur gunna buy TPs listen carefully before u get your money out!
