At my old job we used to do that all the time..
Today is just another day of clockwatching until I can leave the office and go to this local bass event called Rewind which is a part of Strøm Festival. Albert, Pharmacist and other danish acts are playing. and its free!
Tomorrow it's Mad Professor and Joe Ariwa

BOOM - it's Friday
Re: Office Steppers
Mad Professor was wicked! He played alongside Joe Ariwa who also was MCing a bit. Mad Prof actually was MCing at times as wellsnick01 wrote:ahh mad prof are on at outlook in place of barrington levy, never heard of mad prof before though. you will have to report back when you see him/them!
He played lots of dub and steppers ofc. but also a whole lot of roots and a few rocksteadyish tunes.
He is definitely one to look out for on Outlook!
and it's friday! I'm going on this trip with my family... sad thing is I'm going to miss Untold and Rockwell - Will have to catch them at Outlook

Result! Am angling for an early finish myself today; mainly as I worked like a dog last week
Also concious of the fact I didn't fire up the DAW at all over the weekend, so reckon have had enough of a time away from it to step back in with some new ideas. Might do the tried & tested "Deconstruct a song" thing in a bit, listen to a track I like and as I listen write down physical notes on my reporters pad of what is happening in the tune, new elements coming in, what effects are being used. Did it with a Shackleton tune the other week and it turned out quite well

Re: Office Steppers
yeh, I`ve been a bit slack myself on the production front.
I also think it`s time to get the hamsters running.

Re: Office Steppers
Right, so for the Shackleton tune I had the following notes;snick01 wrote:wub wrote:Result! Am angling for an early finish myself today; mainly as I worked like a dog last week

Vinyl crackle in background
Bongo loop
Vocal sample
Synth/deep pads
Synth/Higher bleeps
2nd vocal sample
Piano hook
Drop into synth bleep, different pattern
synth pads build
bass drop, gradual with [can't read my handwriting here]
sub kick & stuttery snare
Bongos come back
vocal samples on heavy delay
Variation in bongos
Bass drops
Piano comes back
2nd vocal sample
Bongos in and out
Piano variation
Synth bleeps
Drop, roll out, strip out
Syntax is a bit off in some of them, and haven't used the 'correct' terms for some of the elements, but the main thing is that I associate my notes with what I was hearing as the tune progressed. Then fired up FL and tried to recreate what I'd heard, using the above as a template. Didn't sound anything like the original, but it was enough of an excerise to give myself a grounding in a few new methods, plus had a pre existing structure to base things on, even if the finished product was quite far removed from the original.
