just got a KorgpadKontrol too, just brought the fun back into making melodies (I used to play drums, but no melodic instruments so...set up a minor scale on the pads, hammer away)
edit: also, karen o's voice- makes its way into pretty much all my tunes, either as main vocals, random background vocals or even as a "synth" or so it sounds

btw, I don't see the point in using downloaded patches, especially ones from commercial packs like Vengeance. You don't really learn anything from it (unless you pull it apart bit by bit) and you didn't make it either... takes the whole point away from producing.
I used to think this too, but honestly the more I produce the more I realize that I just want to get ideas down on my DAW before I forget them. If sample packs or copying drum hits from other producers let's me do that then I'm all for it. You can always tweak it later anyways.
