Yeah, it did become kind of stupid and we kind of did jack the thread, which is why we stopped. My bad.

Re: Exotic Scales
Anyone do much with the Dorian and mixolodyian scales? Also, playing in a Lydian key, while switching to phrygian is really nice, not like going from D lydian to D phrygian, but from D lydian with emphasis on the seventh of the scale, occassionally dabbling in C# phrygian.
Minor keys are cool and all, but sometimes I just find minor 6ths to be too... I dunno. Having the capability to explore both minor-sounding and major-sounding ideas within the same key is really nice, and I've noticed that I'm starting to break free from cliched phrases and feels in my music.

Re: Exotic Scales
I completely agree. I love the Eastern/Arabian sounding progressions. You can utilize both sort of euphoric sounding phrases then knock it into something evil. That's a stupid explanation but hopefully you get what I mean...psychedelicatessen wrote: Minor keys are cool and all, but sometimes I just find minor 6ths to be too... I dunno. Are there any good tuts/websites/chord lists on exotic scales?

But yeah, I've discovered the Perfect 4th Interval (5 semitones), and it's tight. I made a synth patch where one oscillator is the root note, and the next oscillator is 5 semitones up. It's cool because it fits in the scale no matter what you play, unlike the Perfect 5th (7 semitones) where it's only some notes. And the P4 is actually common in rock and heavier stuff like that but I didn't put the two together until just now.

Re: Exotic Scales
I actually find that the best info on chords and scales is on guitar sites.
Re: Exotic Scales
