Re: awkward hipster moment..
I guess a pretty good analogy is power steering - if you're interested in getting from A to B as easily as possible then you want a bike with gears and a car with power steering. But people who enjoy driving for its own sake sometimes prefer no power steering and people who enjoy cycling for its own sake sometimes prefer fixed gear. In both cases, it makes the feedback loop between your body and the road a bit tighter by taking out some extra machinery.noam wrote:some of my friends drive cars they're fun toomagma wrote:I took out the needless specification.frank grimes jr. wrote:I ride a bicycle, it's fun, gives me energy and it's a great way to stay in shape.

Just because you are a character, does not mean you have character.
Re: awkward hipster moment..

The direction you pedal dictates the direction the bicycle moves.
So if you are traveling forward and wish to stop or slow, you remove weight from the rear wheel by leaning forward slightly and resist the forward momentum of the pedals.
If you lean forward enough and stop the pedals from traveling forward altogether, you skid quickly to a stop.
If instead you lean forward slightly and resist the pedals from traveling forward in increments, you slow to a stop.
You can obviously install a front brake for emergencies.
Either way, if the bike is moving, so are the pedals, at all times, no matter the direction.

Just because you are a character, does not mean you have character.

BM threads are the online equivalent of biting the inside of your mouth. You know it's hurts, but you still can't resist poking it with your tongue.

well why the fuck would you run into something in the first place? you are not going to just run into a pole to test out a fixies' brakes.capo ultra wrote:that sounds well unsafe like, don't like the idea of breaking an ankle just to stop a biketherapist wrote:And is that a good thing?noam wrote:if you're about to hit something you lurch your head over the front wheel and jam a foot into the front fork, dont need brakes to stop quickly and dismount your bike.
