First track in this mix (played up until 2:28) is one of my new favorite footwork tracks.

Also for a bit of recent history on this stuff you should check RP Boo's mixtape, Dude off 59th Street:

Yeah, that RP Boo mixtape definitely seems like juke's shining moment to me, although his other mixes are no slouch either. And yes, thanks again to Dave Quam for the wonderful blog.

Addison Groove isn't really indicative of footwork music -- it's more derivative, but still really good dance music. Sounds like you heard some pretty authentic mixing...-[2]DAY_- wrote:hmm, figured i'd stop by this thread b/c i caught a juke set for the first time recently.... i'm definitely feeling Addison Groove tunes and I love 808s in all kinds of contexts
I dig the sustained 808 kicks and repetitive vocals. The more mind-numbing the better really.

Re: Anyone honestly feeling Juke?
'Bout a month ago I was meant to be going round a mates for lunch but I got distracted reading that giant thread on Dissensus, and I never left the house. Literally just spent the entire day sat around absorbing all the juke and footwork I could find - was an expensive day...
Obviously, I'm rather late on the takeup of actual juke/footwork, given how long AG has been pushing the sound and how much I've listened to all that he drops, but fucking hell - a lot of this stuff is just off the chain.
I started with the Bangs & Works comp and the first tune that really knocked me for six was 'Whea Yo Ghost At, Whea Yo Dead Man'. It's like it was made on another planet. After that it was all downhill - buying anything I could find by Rashad, Spinn, Nate, Juke Trax stuff...mind officially blown, anyway. Few things:
1) Cheesy vocal samples, and Leatherface in particular. This guys tunes are some of the cheesiest and almost laugh-out-loud stuff...and yet I love it. Toy Soldiaz for example...there's no way I should be liking that. Similar story with Beetlejuke, and that Psycho tune by Mister Ries (opens the Headhunter juke mix), although these are nowhere near as bad as Toy Soldiaz. Does anyone else find that any pre-existing notions of what is cheesy and in theory should be shit just goes out the window when it comes to juke? I don't have any musical prejudices but I'm pretty sure if I heard some of this stuff in another style it wouldn't be hitting a spot, or at least it would be nothing more than novelty value. Some of the vocals on Nate's stuff as well should be awful, but...
2) Just how many versions of Deep Inside are there?!
3) Feed me more. Has anyone found anything new? That DJ Diamond album that just came out is quality, I'd recommend that to anyone, whether they think they like this stuff or not.

Re: Anyone honestly feeling Juke?
Hah, ok. Well most of the stuff I found was via that Dissensus thread and just browsing through Boomkat/Juno/etc, but out of everything I've listened to so far there are certainly a few standout tunes to mention. I doubt I have anything to add that hasn't been said before though.
DJ Rashad - Drop Juke Out (from Jukeworkz) [one of the best things I've ever heard in any genre, I'm tempted to say]
DJ Elmoe - Whea Yo Ghost At, Whea Yo Dead Man (from Bangs & Works Vol. 1)
DJ Nate - Call Me When You're Sober (from Da Trak Genious) [perfect example of cheesy-as-fuck vocal samples]
DJ Spinn - Shawty Off The Chain (from 4 The Ghetto)
DJ Rashad - Who Da Coldest (from Itz Not Rite)
DJ Diamond - Decoded (from Flight Muzik)
Leatherface - Beetlejuke (from Juke Chainsaw Massacre Vol 3)
Also...the Machinedrum album. It's kinda juke-ish. It goes waaaaaaaaaay over the top with vocal samples in places (not in a cheesy way, just in a "please give me a break from endless vocal samples" kinda way) but it's pretty excellent.
I'm not really sure of the best place to hear newer stuff, or stuff beyond the obvious, which was the reason for enquiring if anyone had stumbled upon anything.
