Getting a professional sound

Post by DoomDawgy » Fri Aug 26, 2011 10:05 pm

I don't exactly understand why but whenever I make a track, it never has that full sound you hear in the big tracks out there. A lot of the time I think I have all the necessary elements but regardless of that my songs still seems too monotone and the way I put it is less energised and uplifting. I have layered bass upon bass in some songs to make it ad heavy as I can, but yet again the final product is just too dead in a sense. I hope someone gets what I'm on about! Thanks

Proper sound design. EQing. Mixdowns. All sorts of little things, like layering kicks.

A good mix down followed by mastering by a good mastering engineer with the tools to master professionally.

but the master will only come out as good as the final mix, it's not there to correct a poor mix down.

I would recommend personally getting some bits mastered and cut to dub at dubstudio.co.uk if your looking for a next step or fairly cost effective way of dipping your toes.

Is dubstudio good quality? Seems to be very adequately priced.

HAMVST

^ and yes, Dubstudio are quality. I've got a big fat stack of dubs from there and they all sound top notch.

Dubstudio are really good and the service is great. Can't speak highly enough of Henry, dubplates always sound dope. But as I said originally what you get out is only as good as what you put in ie a decent mix down.
