I do it all the time lol I can never decide what I want to say

aye I'm not saying hang John Cleese or out, we all make ignorant statements all the time and it would be worse when you are getting interviewed all the time but saying something like 'my mate walked down a street and didn't see any English people' that is blatantly ignorance because you can't tell if someone is english or not. All you are saying is that you didn't see any white people

how can you tell by walking down a street? did he give everyone a survey to see how english they were?

no he looked at the colour of people's skin and made a snap judgement
exactly.

Yeah that bit was pretty bad, he seems to be just using that as an extreme to get peoples attention in the interview.
But as for the rest of it it just seems like an old guy complaining today's London has lost its identity compared to the London he grew up in

So you're all disagreeing that immigration doesn't change a country? Of course it has a difference. When i live in England I certainly don't feel like it is "English" in the stereotypical sense. All of the English have lost their pride, that's the problem.

too many Northern Irish have too much misplaced national pride, that's the problem.

I'm not having a go or out but that's the impression i got from my time there and i think your 'problem' is worse than our 'problem'

Stop tyring to twist my words and make this a racial debate. none of what i have said or what John Cleese has said has nothing to do with the colour of someones skin. Stop trying to be a racial freedom fighter when it isn't required.

Of course Asians can be proud of England.

Loving your country and wanting to kill your own countrymen stems from much more than national pride. Having pride in the place you live doesn't mean you want to kill its inhabitants.

well you seem to be implying that english people have lost their pride because england isn't stereotypically english any more, which is of course ridiculous

There's good and bad in everything. Multiculturalism is good when different cultures live along aside and integrate with one another, and bad when they live alongside but do their best to ignore each other. There's no doubt that we have both types happening in London, I guess it's just that the traditional British mind, naturally cynical, tends to focus on the latter and exaggerate it. You have to be ultra careful with your words when talking about this stuff or you immediately get gunned down as a bigot. This quote from Cleese being a case in point!

He didn't imply anything like that, all he said was English. You're the one who tried suggesting he was only talking about 'proper English people' as you put it.

He's right, you're just twisting what he says for sake of argument
