The problem for me now is - I don't know where MY people went..

Everything is just an echo of it's former self...

So to say that people need to get their heads around it is 1) both naive and foolish 2) shows sever lack of understanding, in fact you may as well say, "speaking as a white twenty something university educated bourgeois male I hereby speak on behalf of a large section of society I have no understanding of but will generalise anyway..."
Err, steady on there. Fair enough I gave no context to my comment, but I really didn't mean much by it.

Sydney is no longer an English city either.

but we could've done better by the original inhabitants & their culture
just as i hope the willing contributions of my ancestors,
without the priviledges & living standards of today,
aren't written off as immigrant underclass labour

?how the hell can we expect undeveloped countries such as Ethiopia & Pakistan
to deal dispassionately & fairly with refugee influxes,
if we can't calmy & honestly discuss problems of cultural integration
in cities like London & Sydney...the world's laboratories for learning to live together.

but race & culture aren't our primary division
we all know there are ethical & evil individuals of all races & cultures.
let's keep our eye on the ball: the inequitable distribution of wealth & power
the poorest of us on here is rich compared to most of the planet's people

direct your anger where it belongs, not at each other
use it to institute change, not squabble over who's right
get closer to people & build a diverse community
share what power you have to liberate others from what oppresses them

shed your skin & go colourless
change your mind & deal with reality
track your anger back through pain & hurt
take responsibility for making things better

John Cleese, in person, is a grumpy git
whose main problem is paying a million pounds a year alimony
He doesn't live in London because of the taxes,
London not being English is his way of rationalizing his actions.

The main problem in london is the amount of money grabbing, tax evading tory wankers that live there.

dont hate on the man, i'm sure he isn't one bit racist, and that comment was very discreet, i think. he's actually not the youngest man and there has been throughout the history and will always be people longing for the golden olden days. things change, different cultures mix up and so on. probably when our generation is older, we're complaining about the lack of countries and borders on the map as world has unified into one giant state with independent, self-reliable villages scattered around. :6:

that's exactly my thoughts. the polite racists over here say that america doesn't look american anymore, and then they point out that they're not racist, they are just making an observation. funny how racist people have to always let you know that they are not being racist... I said that not all americans are white or speak english and they looked at me like i was crazy... my only solace is knowing that these people are usually old as shit and will die soon :4:

AND...

What I think the problem is, is traffic - There is enough traffic on South St. to support about 11 of them...
But instead of the capital and resources going to build that - It's gone to OTHER projects like...

The High End Restaurant District and Luxury High Rises that outprice most normal people.

I'm not being racist...I'm being an equal opportunity idiocist.

but then again - I'm like 1 of 2 people in the entire world that hates Tupac Shakur...
..so I am just naturally destined for some sort of a beat down...

and what exactly is his point?
it just seems to be a vague statement about his idea of being 'english' and how london doesn't match up to it.
Mortal wrote:Oh, and everyone's racist, accept it and move on.
and that makes it ok?

even if that were true, it still doesn't mean it's the right way to be.
if we all just did stuff because 'that's what everyone does' we'd still be in the stone age. human civilization is a history of people recognizing something that's wrong with our society and trying to improve it so future generations will have a better standard of life.
electricity, human rights, cars, writing, music, etc... were all things that no one used at one point, but are now commonplace.
(by the same argument a lot of people are producing brostep, but it still doesn't make it a good thing to be doing)
Mortal wrote:Its all of this PC shit that well and truly grates on me...
you disagree with the idea of wanting to treat people fairly and equally?

yeah, institutionalized politeness has created a few irritating situations, but this is a small price to pay for having a better society than the one that existed 30 years ago.
(in the same way that skrillex is a small price to pay for having dubstep. yeah, he's annoying, but the main idea is good)

here we go.
im sure you can understand his 'point' whether you agree to it or not. it's written well enough to put that across.
and im saying i agree with his opinion, simple.

and youre digging far too deep here mate. Don't take me too seriously. i say everyones racist, but i never said that makes it okay.
the point is, everyone judges, its human nature, and therefore everyone will stereotype, obviously some more extreme than others.
what im getting at is that racism is just a part of judging which is so deep-rooted that its not going to be fixed by people bluntly accusing
others of being racist when theyve expressed a point, thats just judging even more surely? so Mr. Cleese made his point/stated his opinion
which was fair and respectful, and everyone jumps on it like 'whats wrong with brown people?!?!?!' ridiculous!
you disagree with the idea of wanting to treat people fairly and equally?
i will give it to you though, this bit did make me chuckle!

yes, yes that is exactly the point i was obviously making
but yet again, dont take me seriously...there was obviously intended humour in there, and suddenly, OH SHIT I DONT WANT FAIRNESS!!!!!111!!!
relax dude, i agree that its need for equality and the like, of course.
But when it gets to the point where we have to be careful with what we say to people of other ethnic backgrounds, more than they do onto us, when they are wanting to be involved in our culture..pfft, thats a joke!

read into any of that however you like...im sure its going to come back to me all twisted up.

Who do I have to agree with to avoid being branded a either a racist or politically correct?
Pathetic...some of you need to start thinking for yourselves.
