Not sure how to use this, but seems like a pretty sweet thing to have just in case :)

Big up man! Thanks

I put all the files into the ableton live library under grooves. That is where I keep all my midi patterns, drums, and these chords. When they are in there you can just drag and drop those files in your session.

on windows for me it goes:

E:\Ableton\Live 8.2\Library\Grooves\ and then I put in the folders.

Hope that helps,
Isaac

nice this reminds me of the fl function where you could just insert chords into the piano roll. I have kind of missed that ref. tooll since moving ot ableton. Thanks for hooking it up!

Free VST list - solid and banging

Post by subaqueous » Fri Sep 02, 2011 11:37 pm

Hey yall...

I wanted to start up a list of free vst's for production. Here is a list of what I really like:

Rez a Rad Monosynth

Rez is a seemingly basic synth, but it’s capable of a very wide range of sounds. While Rez has a bunch of cool features, the beating heart of Rez is its filter. It’s made from multiple chained filters acting as a single powerful filter and it’s highly resonant, providing Rez with its distinctive character. Top that off with distortion, a phaser, various oscillator modulations, delay, and arping.

From funky squishes, beastly basses, and screaming leads, to tight arpeggiations, swirling rhythms, atmospheres, bells, and interesting effects. You can download it at: http://www.ugoaudio.com/plug-ins/rez

Cosmogirl II

It's a 2 oscillator analog style synth, specially geared to the creation of spatial FXs, ambient textures and experimental music. Here is a video with some exmples of the sounds. You can download the synth at http://www.uv.es/ruizcan/p_vst.htm as well as some of there other cool VSTi's.

I mainly like there bells and find this a good way to add effects. Been supper stable as well.

Alieno: the battle of sound begins

Alieno is a rad little synth. Cool looking GUI and good presets. Suitable for lead lines, sequences and special FX synthesis. SCI-FI look and feel with 12 skins and 144 original sounds extended library included.

Download free at: http://www.blank-media.it/acrobatics/

Also wrote this up about the SIR Free Reverb...If you don't know about really good reverb and IR's then check it out IR Reverb and IR Library.

What else you all got?

Atlantis: Apparently this one has a lot of features. Personally I don't like it but a lot of people do: http://jeremyevers.com/atlantis/

Crystal: Powerful synth, comparable to a lot of shareware synths. Good for pads. http://www.greenoak.com/crystal/

TAL Noisemaker: Basic free synth, makes good dirty basslines and wobbles. http://kunz.corrupt.ch/products/tal-noisemaker

Camel Crusher: http://www.camelaudio.com/camelcrusher.php Two kinds of distortion with built-in filter and compressor

Cyanide 2: Wave shaper http://www.madtracker.org/plugins.php?t ... 1132028210

DB Glitch: Allows you to program your own sequences of several glitchy effects http://illformed.org/plugins/glitch/

Dub Expander: Basic dimensional expander, designed for dubstep http://www.kvraudio.com/db/dub_expander_by_asl_soundlab

Kjaerhus series: A serious of quality basic effects http://producertoolz.com/free-classic-v ... -kjaerhus/

I can't help but feel that some of the commentary is tongue-in-cheek humour, but still useful for those that want to learn. Thanks for your contribution :)

I can just see the FL users asking why their screens look different.
I`m sure this will help someone though.
Thanks

on a side note, this technique can be applied to any daw.

but that doesn`t allow you to manually draw the lfo.
It can create more variation than a std synced lfo.
Also syncing things to hits is far easier when you draw the lfo.

Yeah totally. I know drawing the lfo seems so simple, but that is the big difference between pro and not. Took me a year to figure it out on my own. And yeah this is useful for mainly Ableton heads, but the principle can be used else where.

Article on Glitch Techniques, Free Glitch VST's, and Effects

Post by subaqueous » Mon Sep 12, 2011 9:04 pm

I just wrote an article on Using Glitch in music production and wanted to share it with the forum. It has a video that goes over some free glitch VST's, my own Ableton Gltich presets for download, and techniques.
Image

I tried to present the tools I use, how I use them, and why I use them in my music.

Enjoy!
