I sometimes don't get why skrillex uses dog barking sounds in his songs. Wouldn't that shit hurt being played live at loud volumes? just my opinion and I really don't think skirllex is the filthiest. I don't wanna get into filth wars or whatever the fuck but there are so many people out there that can make nicer and crazier music imo

Farrk that. I don't have a long enough attention span to get in to technological buggery tbh. I litterally rush all my tunes tbh. Just to get the structure out. Then once I'm musically happy with it, I'll come back after a few days for the techy shit, that's if I ever go back for it...

I completely agree that there's plenty of producers out there putting out "brostep" just to make really "big" tunes with huge sounds focusing on how "grimey" they can be. But in my eyes there can be a happy medium. Feed me for example (imo), comes out with some stuff that's really dirty, yet at the same time very melodic and complex. He's got the best of both worlds down, focusing on the musical aspect as well as the sound design.

I remember the days before I started browsing here and never really noticed a difference in dubstep. I mean I liked all kinds of it, and I didn't care if certain producers focused on certain bands of frequency.

On a brostep music/filth balance ratio, I'mma return to my guy skrillex, his new EP, at least the original tracks on it, are pretty good examples of a good balance of filth and melodic sections. Just listen to the intros on stuff like First of the Year (Equinox) and either version of Ruffneck, switch at the drops if you must, but you cannot deny, the man knows how to compose a melody!

It's not about hardness or softness, the fact is a lot of producers now aren't making songs. Theyre programming a bunch of random noise over a kick snare loop. Changing a LFO rate every 2 seconds, frog noise, dragon scream, new filter, etc and even that could be musical if the pattern at least repeated, or they used more than one note. This is where I'm coming from. I mean you can do this, but it's not musical. It's not EDM. It's just E. All I can say is thank god for James Blake, M Kimbie, Rusko (yes Rusko), Emika, Hoflush, Hemlock, Get Darker, Electronic Explorations Podcast and Hyperdub because otherwise this scene would be dead already. I know I wouldn't be here. I came for Bass, Pace, Space. Couple years later Transformers are screaming bloody murder every release.

Same thing happened with DnB, the whole techy roller thing, when sound design of farty basses and getting THAT PERFECT SNARE replaced interesting ideas and songwriting as the producers weapon of choice.

Badklaat is filth. Skrillex is noise. The only skrillex tune I like is Reptile, and even then I spent the whole song praying he wouldnt ruin it by adding pointless screeching noises.

i dunno what the proper term is anymore, but i reckon Badklaat makes some of my favorite, filthiest tearout dubstep.
