Its what it is, its not meant to be witty or intelligent, Most of the jokes are about body parts or sex. I bet anyone who watches the film will laugh at it, although some people were over reacting in the cinema slightly.

Im not sure whether or not it's meant to be, but I find the acting to be absolutely shocking.

Still laughed at it though.

Don't quite know how it all blew up in popularity, I watched the first series and it seemed pretty unknown back then. After the first series the situations got too ridiculous and there were too many recycled jokes, but I really enjoyed the first series.

I thought the film was good. Lots of laughs and a good way to round off a pretty decent comedy show

I liked the series. They don't screen the movie in Belgium though.

Dragging out? I don't call 3 series (18 episodes) and a small movie dragged out.

It's so fucking annoying that so many Brittish series always stop after 2-4 series, especially when every series doesn't even have more than 6 or 8 episodes.

That's because genuinely creative writers tend to want to go off and do something else eventually. It's a bit different when you've got billion dollar studios hiring rolling teams of writers to co-script shows to a formula for years on end like the US Office or The Simpsons, but when you're talking about individuals working on a pet project like tends to happen over here they don't want to be enslaved to a project for their entire life. Hollywood has mechanised a lot of its programme production... once you're through the pilot, they've just got to keep tweaking the formula until finally they lose so much of the original spark that nobody's really making an effort to watch anymore (see US Office and The Simpsons).

I'm actually really glad nobody pinned Chris Morris down to making The Day Today forever and that we're not given 24 episodes a year of Peep Show written by a team of industry-savvy university graduates.

I love *every*single*minute* of Fawlty Towers. I can't say that about any show that ran on for more than 2 series.

You're right about the hollywood thing and I was expecting that comment from someone, but I'm sure there must've been some shows that still had some juice in them.

just watched a little bit of it. seems mildly funny, although a lot of the jokes are pretty shitty. I liked Skins better although the third generation is SHIT. the second generation is okay and the first generation was actually good.

There's a lot of posts verging on hipsters in here with comments similar to "I watched it before everyone else" and "The first series was when it peaked" etc...

I think it is what it is - In no way is it groundbreaking or completely amazing, but it is funny. The jokes/humour is basic and quite slapstick. It was never meant to be like the UK Office and is completely different, but it still works. As a 18 year old - I can really relate to it. In school/college there's a lot of 'inbetween' people who aren't really documented in the media, usually it's the two opposite ends - geeks and cool kids. So it was a welcome relief to see 'everyday kids' being looked at (although the comedy did over-exaggerate scenarios of course). In terms of humour - it reminds me of Phoenix Nights a lot - basic, but well done.

I don't think comedy has dropped in quality either. Everyone remembers a certain show from a certain era, it's just right now you can remember the shit stuff too because it's so recent. Give it 10 years and you'll remember a lot less of the crap!
Btw, Old guys started in 09, it's in its 3rd series I believe! Anyway, the bigger question for me is how anyone could really stomach watching Skins?
