So who actually cuts dubplates?

I'm starting a new label soon and were offering half price (20 quid is initial price point +p&p) dubs of the tune upto a month and a half before the release which will be digital only. Some form of printed sleeve as well. Only made to order. You lot think that'll prove to be popular? I'm doing it more from a desire to put out a physical product, but also to keep the vinyl and and to try and bring what is no definitely a dying trend back to the smaller businesses that can treat it is as a special occasion rather than the large struggling distros/plants who need to turn around 500+. it'll be fun regardless!

For my 2 cents, it would depend solely on the tunes. The fact that it comes out much earlier than the digital release is a good selling point though.

Sounds good, I'm interested. What's the label called and what type of dubstep (presumably) are you looking to put out? What distro have you got lined up for the digi side? Tell tell tell

judging by soul motive's recent output it'll be more on the house-type-stuff-but-not-really-tip, which im fully behind - i reckon some/alot of artists would love to get on that idea for the same ethos as yourself, keeping dub cutting and vinyl alive.

if the tune was right, i'd certainly cut a dub of it.

I'll get an official announcement online soon, just waiting for the website redesign first. The new label won't genre based (it'll have a dance backbone of course) and it'll focus on live bands, performers and artists. Coleco and Victoria Klewin will be first up. I'm really excited.

I started cutting about 6 months into production (About a year ago). Started mixing 8 years ago (There where no CD's in sight anywhere back then). The sound and the feel, nothing else will ever be vinyl or acetate. I'm literally uploading £200 + worth of new dubs from me and friends ready to send over to Henry at Dub Studio (Can't recommend him enough).

I am curious who still cuts properly though (No CD's at all when it comes to playing out). A few I could add -

Mala, Coki, Joe Nice, Pinch, Lurka (I Think?), Myself, LD, Arktrix, that '£10Bag' guy I see on here... ?

^ Just an estimate but I think no more than a fiver unless you want recorded/tracking to UK mainland.

Not too bad. I remember mala saying that its £50 for a 12" acetate as opposed to £39 at dubstudio, but they are both £30 for a 10" acetate. Is the 12 worth it for the extra?

Depends how good you are at mixing 10".

Most people prefer 12"s because they're bigger and less prone to flying forward/back a lot at the slightest touch but also they do fit more so if you track is to long for a 10" you'll -have- to get a 12".

If you can spare 50 quid I would just get a 12" its just better to look at/touch/mix with - if you're on a budget get a 10".

I'd go for DubStudio for a internet cut; just because thats where they do a lot of business so they're used to people not being in the studio. From what I can gather Transition are more of a go there and cut it place.

10" acetates dont, they weigh more than some vinyl 12"s
Dubstudio are good if you're doing it over the net, easy interface and no hassle. probably gonna use them again for my next one.

acetate 10. cant remember it was quite a bit more to ship to NZ than dubstudio though.

was it acetate or vinyl though? both my dubstudio and transition 10s have been chunky as. seeing as theyre metal plates and all. can imagine a vinyl 10 would be like mixing a CD though

Think i'll probably go for a 12" acetate from dub studio then. Now to make 2 tracks worthy of cutting...haha
