Is Skream worth seeing anymore?
Is Skream worth seeing anymore?
Hes coming to my City and I hear that all he plays is Brostep skrillex shit and for $40+ for a ticket to see him is it even worth it? Or does he still play Dub plates and UK bangers because if he does I will gladly pay the money to hear that but no skrillex screeches
Re: Is Skream worth seeing anymore?
Seriously? Even Skream's most mid-range tear out tracks sound nothing like Skrillex. I know it sounds crazy but you can utilize mid range and still make a quality tune.KavemanM wrote:Hes coming to my City and I hear that all he plays is Brostep skrillex shit and for $40+ for a ticket to see him is it even worth it? Sounds insane I know, but it happens.
But to answer your question, no idea what he plays live.
Re: Is Skream worth seeing anymore?
Wow.... How did DMZ react to that?wobbles wrote:I heard he dropped bass cannon at a DMZ
I always thought of DMZ as a bass Church where the real Dub step heads went. But I guess times are changing and its not the same crowd anymore; and than again I wouldn't real know since I live in Canada.
So I guess Skream is a no go for me..
You can now say blame Canada for help hyping excision and Datsik and all them guys on the Rottun label.
Re: Is Skream worth seeing anymore?
I am in the same boat, joker is playing in the same night, and I know benga and skream are gonna drop some lame ass shit
Re: Is Skream worth seeing anymore?
The guy is a pioneer...but the answer to your question is No

He said he plays Skrillex in his sets, not that his tunes sound like Skrillex.FuDuzn wrote:Seriously? Even Skream's most mid-range tear out tracks sound nothing like Skrillex. Yea I'm going to that night solely for the purple man, can't let an opportunity like that go begging. As for Skream and Benga....we'll see what happens, maybe I'll be wrecked enough to tolerate them, if not...well I just saw Joker and heard a ton of exclusives so its all worth it in the end.wobbles wrote:I am in the same boat, joker is playing in the same night, and I know benga and skream are gonna drop some lame ass shit

When you see them can you post how the set was and if it was worth it.GoRiLLa_FiNGaH wrote:Yea I'm going to that night solely for the purple man, can't let an opportunity like that go begging. Why the big shift in his music selections? I also don't get it why he doesn't play his music because his productions are solid.
I don't think I have herd a Joker mix before, I need to get on that!
Re: Is Skream worth seeing anymore?
It's not really a big shift, he's been playing and making more agressive stuff for ages. As for why he's doing it, he's playing what he wants and not caring what anyone thinks which is fair enough!
No hate to skream but probably not worth seeing if you only like the deeper stuff.

Re: Is Skream worth seeing anymore?
I enjoy most spectrums of dubstep (including some "bro"), but there comes a point in time when all the yoi-yoi's and supreme massive mega wobbles get a wee bit offensive to the ears, I'll definitely let you guys know how it went, but my man if you haven't heard any Joker you need to fix that immediately, his mix for Mary Anne Hobbs and mixes for Mistajam are the fiyah

I love heavy sound Dubstep but none of that Screeching stuff. You can have heavy sounding dubstep and still have sub bass in it .lojik wrote:It's not really a big shift, he's been playing and making more agressive stuff for ages. Re: Is Skream worth seeing anymore?
Based on what he's played in the last few years when I've seen him I'd say no...
Anyone ever heard one of his '130 bpm' sets? Not even sure if he's done it before but he's supposedly playing one at a WHP later this year (other artists on the line-up are quality too).

Re: Is Skream worth seeing anymore?
Seen him earlier this year, thought he was pretty fucking good.He didn't play any skrillex/extremely shitty brostep,he still plays gems.It was worth it alone to hear peri peri bass

Re: Is Skream worth seeing anymore?
I'd say no. The past 3 times I have seen Skream he has been utterly woeful. His sets usually follow the same procedure -
1. Start tune number 1.
2. Rewind tune number 1.
3. Start tune number 1 again.
4. Rewind tune number 1 again.
5. Start tune number 1 for the third time.
6. Mess around with the special effects, rinse the low pass filters.
7. Rewind tune number 1 for the third time.
8. Start tune number 1 for the forth time.
9. Mess around with the special effects, rinse the low pass filters.
Now two endings can occur -
1. Let the tune run out, 30 second gap of no music and then start tune number 2.
2. Start to mix tune number 2 in, spin back tune number 1 so little to no mixing is involved.
Rinse and repeat.
Let's not even get started on the dog mid-range mess he plays these days, each to their own I guess.
Just don't go and expect tunes like Lemon or Tapped to get dropped, it won't happen.
Still, big up Skream and that!

woah slow down...assumption overload...DMZ is still the 'bass church' you described it asKavemanM wrote:Wow.... How did DMZ react to that?wobbles wrote:I heard he dropped bass cannon at a DMZ

and don't even go there with the reaction to him playing bass canon at dmz 6 lool because there were many a arguments on this forum because of it and skream basically tried sh1tting on the forum in the process as well...(it started with someone msg'ing him on his twitter saying he was a disgrace for playing that bollocks at dmz of all places)
but in regards to seeing him...i've seen him i don't know how many times so i say you should go see him because he's a pioneer of the scene and you at least want to try and see as many artists as you can once, especially if you don't live in the UK...however, i'll put it this way, nowadays i only see him by accident, in the sense of if he's on the same bill of other artists i wanted to see...his set at FWD>>10th birthday was a classic, but then again he only did stuff from 2006 so there you go...the stuff he plays nowadays is terrible and wheels up tracks too much but you never know, he might throw in sub island or lemon off the cuff so i say go..you may be surprised, and he does do god-great tearout (still nowhere near coki levels), its just the other peoples tracks he plays which ruins his sets...

Re: Is Skream worth seeing anymore?
Both times I went to see him were horrible, fortunately Pokes was there to cheer me up. I guess that's what happens when you have to cater for a bigger audience. If he played tunes like Rottan in front of 2000 ukf kids I guess he would get a few cans thrown at him so I can't really blame him

I want to go back to England for just a week so I can go to some proper shows with a proper group of people that aren't looking for the harshest sounding shit to make their faces melt.
Only good thing happening in my city is the Drum and Bass scene so far I have seen Dj Hype J Majik and Dj Friction but for Dubstep its all Rottrun artists.

He did two shows on radio 1 on thursday, listen again on iplayer and that should give you an idea as to what he plays. Some good but mostly midrange and screeches tho.

Re: Is Skream worth seeing anymore?
na mate due respect but ure wrong, he playes decent stuff on his radio show sometimes cuz he aint got a complete novice crowd infront of him going mental, they wouldnt respond to decent tunes so na ure gonna get 100% heavy if you watch him live, to be honest, he is a pioneer and trust me im really not a skrillex fan, infact i cant abide the guy however his heavy stuff isnt a patch on skrillex's stuff, imo hes made some of the worst heavy stuff ive ever heard, just sounds novicecodeStep wrote:He did two shows on radio 1 on thursday, listen again on iplayer and that should give you an idea as to what he plays.
