By all means they exist man, and youll find just as many kids following the deep-end thing who are just as ignorant. I just didnt like seeing you write off the entire listener base as being blind, because on my own experience and the experience of most of the artists I support, it runs alot deeper in us then the current trend, and speaking personally, Id still be behind a monitor/decks making or spinning something even if dubstep had never materialized, in any form, deep or bro.GothamHero wrote:No it isn't, it's called being bigotedTeknicyde wrote:Lectric wrote:The filth war is a phase. itll pass over like leggings and heelys. only because people dont listen to it because they love the music, but because the scene is kids who want to play something at houseparties thatll melt everyones brains, and they think thats cool.
Says who man? Who are you to judge whether or not I love my own music? WTF is that? You suppose if it was all about bookings, Id turn those down? Nah.
Lumping the entire aggressive, wobbly crowd in with idot toss-offs that have been into this for 2 months and will be out again in 2 more isnt cool. Just because things took an evolutionary turn doesnt mean it did it because noone loved the sound.
I assure you, I and alot of other brostep producers, like what I make, know my history, have been here since before dubstep was the powerhouse it is and arent going anywhere once it fades away.
Dont pass judgement on an entire crowd, sweeping generalization style. S'called being biggoted.![]()
Sorry, I saw a random comma in the middle of the title and I hate to put on my obsessive grammar pants. I agree with the majority of what you said, but I fear you're giving brostep producers a little too much credit, probably because you're making a generalisation based on your own experience. Most of them do not know their history, at all. A majority have not been there since Dubstep was a powerhouse, at all. I think they'll move onto the next phase if it does fade away. Hopefully it doesn't, as I like that bro stuff.

Then my apologies, I was assuming you were part of the many that look down their noses at 'Brostep'. I actually like the viewpoint after reading some more of your posts in this thread.Teknicyde wrote:I joined in 08, just changed usernames recentlyFuDuzn wrote:Like I said, 'Old Guard'(and yes I know he joined just before me, but he represents my point)Teknicyde wrote:Its brostep and dubstep bro did you miss this bulletin?
Also if you took that as me being one of the 'old guard' types... I happily produce aggressive 140bpm industrial/dnb/breakcore influence music... and most people would call it brostep... so I embrace the word. Dont take it as an insult it wont be an insult. Bit like all the interpretations of successful androgynous person.
Re: Can anybody on this forum, agree with me on this?
People are vile toward brostep because it was THAT sound that broke through in the states before people even knew what dubstep was. The idea of dubstep at it's inception was to pull back from what other genres were doing at the time (cranking the knob to 11 etc) and try to experiment with an emphasis on low end and vibes.
There's a very insightful quote from a Resident Advisor review of Skrillex that sums it all up perfectly:
"If this means that the core Beatport user-base, as close to a mainstream as dance music gets, is going to finally acknowledge dubstep through an artist like Skrillex, I'm concerned. Its one-dimensional aggression and appeal to the lowest common denominator feels like the exact opposite of where the genre began; there's a difference between perversion and evolution. Dubstep is undergoing both processes at once, and the results couldn't be more far apart."
In the end, I think classification and names are a waste of time, but I personally know people who got the ball rolling with dubstep here in America, refuse to pull a Skrenga and are losing money because a club owner can hire some kid who pirated traktor and lives down the street to play a bunch of wasteman jrabbit remixes for free.

Re: Can anybody on this forum, agree with me on this?
This is your answer. There's also an issue of 16+ clubs popping up all over the place in America that play nothing but the filthy ear rape and when the youth is exposed to something they run with it hard. None of the original sound is hitting the nujacks so when you're pre-exposed to something as "dubstep" they're not gonna care to learn where it came from. Its mostly become a battle between age groups.Undrig wrote:In the end, I think classification and names are a waste of time, but I personally know people who got the ball rolling with dubstep here in America, refuse to pull a Skrenga and are losing money because a club owner can hire some kid who pirated traktor and lives down the street to play a bunch of wasteman jrabbit remixes for free.

How is shitty wooble brostep a new sound... sounds to me like they are just copying each other with shitty "huge drops" and noise.... to me, and anyone with a clue, "new sound" would be James Blake, Joy Orbison, Addison Groove or fucking anyone in the whole "post dubstep" scene that is pushing whatever the fuck dubstep was
its these shitty brostep cigarettes who cant make anything new or innovative , thus why they make brostep

Re: Can anybody on this forum, agree with me on this?
This whole 'original dubstep' vs. 'brostep' debate is actually plain stupid. Why are people so caught up in genre labels, I say everyone should judge music objectively, and if they don't like it then don't listen to it. The 'old skool' dubsteppers need to pull their heads out of their ass and just accept the fact that Dubstep has branched off and expanded into different sounds. I think everyone should embrace the breadth of Dubstep, I love it how it allows for so much creativity and interpretations from producers allowing for deep, melodical or aggressive tunes. As for brostep, I hate it how quick everyone is to judge and just lump it all together as 'shitty rave music'. Brostep in itself has variety, there are producers who make tunes I don't like, such as Flux Pavillion, Skrillex, Gemini, Zomboy etc. But I hate it how people judge Brostep based upon the heavy weights, like Skrillex. There is awesome, dark shit that comes out of Dubline and energetic amateur filth coming out of Chronos and Beatmorph. I'm even gonna be controversial and say i'm a Rottun fan, some of the old Datsik and Liquid Stranger tunes such as "Retreat", "Robot Rox", and "Blackout" got me into Dubstep in the first place.
I respect anyone who loves any kind of music, but stop imposing your opinions on others, especially when they are motivated by some bullshit insecurities about the fact that Brostep has blown up.

Re: Can anybody on this forum, agree with me on this?
I'm new here and this is my first or second post (I think my welcome post didn't go through or something, not the point), but I disagree. Isn't music all about progression and evolution? For instance, in rock and roll, they didn't stop calling it rock and roll when it changed up. It was still rock and roll. Led Zeppelin is just as rock and roll as Lynyrd Skynyrd. Not everyone likes the more southern sound of Skynyrd, just as not everyone likes the "new" sound of dubstep. People are always going to have their likes and dislikes. I for one, enjoy the more modern sound and artists like Liquid Stranger, but every now and then it's nice to listen to some more mellow dubstep that can just be ambient.

Re: Can anybody on this forum, agree with me on this?
It doesnt matter what end of the spectrum you enjoy...YOU enjoy it. To hell with everyone else. If I say to someone I listen to dubstep and they say "like Skrillex?" just agree with them. You will get tired of trying to justify your tastes to people who do not share the same passion for the music as you do. Just agree with them. If they take an interest, show them the style you like. Invite them to see you play out. If they're expecting to hear you play tear out Circus Records and Rotten releases, they're gonna get a shock when they get pounded in the chest with "Eyez" or "Mud".
To be honest creating and reading threads like this solves no issues. There's no way you're going to create new subgenres by talking about creating them. That's just nonsense. There are so many good releases to bag at the moment, just take a look at Redeye and Chemical...absolute wallet rape!! I just bagged 10 back cat releases from Soul Jazz...I am so excited to get em, give them a spin and play them out!! "Selecta" by Mz Bratt, "Visions" by Cyrus, "Dem A Talk" by TMSV, "Zebulon" by Old Apparatus...even Benny Ill has new stuff out on Tempa. Why bitch and moan about the state of "Dubstep" and "people getting confused by de wobbles" when you can get online, purchase some tunes and enjoy the music.
...seriously wtf?

^ This is exactly what i'm talking about. What does shitty "huge drops" even mean, the point of 'brostep' is to be aggressive and energetic, what offends you so much about tracks having huge drops that deliver energy? I love old school dubstep, I like sitting at home and putting on my monitoring headphones and listening to deep, dark dubs, but to be honest that style of Dubstep has no place in the modern club scene. If that scene is not for you than stay out of it, but don't judge 'brostep' based on what dubstep used to be.
