JTL wrote: @R3N3GADE lol, I'm a sucker for 8-bit sounding synths like that, absolutely adore them. Nice arp over the top too.. Where are the hihats??? Needs variation but shows promise. Did you program the synth yourself? Add in a hat after 8 bars and watch the track come alive. Drop lacks oomph, I'd like to see the synth from the first half continued over maybe? Somehow cut up.
Thank you very much! The arp was one of my favorite "discoveries" of this track :P I haven't really decided where I want the high hats yet, and by that I mean whether I want them 8 count hats or 16 count hats. I'm gonna add some different stuff in later, but I literally JUST did this the night I posted it, so it's a baby as far as tracks go, has some room for improvement. The first synth in the drop? Not sure that'd work, but I could give it a shot, I guess. Actually... you just gave me an idea... And I programmed the synth myself in Massive, but I didn't do a hell of a lot to it. Ran it through some filters, and dimension expanders, EQd it slightly. I don't like using stock sounds if I can avoid it.

@standby
A bit hard to judge it as a "song" yet, but man... REALLY diggin' these drums man. They feel very alive and dynamic all the way through. I asume that you are going to fill up the spaces in the beginning? 'Cause that seems to sound a bit empty. Maybe a pad or some ambience will fix that. Once the drums kicked in, it caught my attention tho ;).

@JTL
Not really into this vocal. Don't get me wrong, it's not the mix, just the voice and melody are not really my thing. Good seperation of instruments, tho the heavy synth after the drop seems to be lacking a bit of punch and rattle. You could try to boost it just slightly in the mid/high section. You got something nice going on here, but it could use a bit more punch, unless ofcourse that is not what you want with this track.

@paradigm001
Love the sawing in this one =). The atmosphere is good, keep it that way. Some of the basses still need tweaking, and lacks a bit of fluidness for some reason. You could try to kinda.... morph them together. The basses are not very diffrent from eachother (no large contrast). By playing with the envelopes, or some subtle cross-fading, you can make them sound more like one bass going crazy, as opposed to serveral similar basses going wild. If you know what I mean =P. But thats just how you want the song to sound like... I tend to use really different basses going nuts as well.

Here's my latest WIP. My appologies for the weird ending, the Drum 'n bass beat is still there as a placeholder for later use in the song (i was too lazy to cut that from this clip =$). The first drop is much bigger sounding than the second one, while it is suppost to be the other way around. But I still need to mix the last 30 sec properly. So with that said, let me know what you guys think =).

Well since I only gave only 2 people feedback to begin with (I added the 3rd one later), I will give this guy some feedback to straighten out my karma.

@AMPR
Your track seems overly crouded... give each instrument some room to breath. I can barely hear the kick, all that remains of your hi-hats is a faint hiss, and (correct me if I'm wrong) your snare seems to be distorting. The main Idea is not bad, but it just sounds as if everything is right in your face, which can be cool if done right, but right now sounds like it's a bit too much in your face for comfort.

BaseBass- Well produced intro, maybe turn it down a db or so then turn it back up when the beat drops, it can add a lot more weight to the drop which that drop needs tbh. mixdowns pretty good, im assuming its mixed down to be mastered which is why its quiet. Nice tune so far keep going with it mate.

JTL- For starters, the mixdown is the volume and placement of all the elements in your tune before they are mastered. a good mixdown will leave you with a lovely sounding tune even before the mastering stage. anyway, I like the intro a lot, some nice ideas in there especially the vocal. i like the main section too, maybe just turn the sub up a little bit though. your mixdown is virtually spot on. what the track could do with though though is an MC as well as the female vocal. could be a really good tune if you got said MC to spit over your tune, providing the guy you got was worth his salt. Really nice tune though mate, well done so far.

Standby- Nice vibe on the intro, good use of rhythmic elements. maybe add a subtle riser that runs for about 8 bars before ther drop, when i say subtle i mean almost unhearable. mixdowns solid, just finish the tune now mate!

Heres my WIP, done a dodgy self master on it and soundclouds fucked with the dynamics as per, this ones been requested for me to send to his Bengaship when its finished so watch this space!

@Standby - dude something about this screams AWESOME and i cant pinpoint it, i think its the SICK SICK basslines with the subs with nice uses of the 8bit sounds, very nice well structured track.
@BaseBass - dont get me wrong its pretty good, but its just kinda muddy sounding (the bass) you need to just kinda tighten up some sounds and fighting frequencies dude, other then that, its SICK. very nice vocals !

HERES MY WIP GUYS TOOK QUITE A WHILE TO MAKE I AM IN NEED OF FEEDBACK !!! TOOK QUITE A WHILE TO MAKE , ESPECIALLY THE BASSES.

@BaseBass Slick tune man I like it :)
@Bassheaddubs My heads boppin, you're doing a good job ;)
@Specimen-Yarp loving the breakdown thing you got going out, it sounds as if the drums maybe get a little fuzzy? It could just be me though, I don't have good speakers atm.

Wow dude I'm so pissed... I spent like 20 minutes writing this huge long thing on 2 songs and somehow it didn't get posted.....
Anyway,

@BaseBas - Diggin this track man, fucking awesome. Honestly, the only thing I would change is that the drop at the end doesn't seem to be as heavy or full as the beginning. Other than that, I love it. I think you could make the dmb part at the end work. Obviously it's a little abrupt because you weren't planning on keeping it in the song, but I think with a good transition, you could actually make it work.

@Cheeky - I love the high pitched stabs in this track, in my opinion they don't have too much resonance, sounds fine to me. I think it would fit really well if the rest of the track dropped out when the stab hits like every other time or every 2 times or something like that, and then let the beat come back in right when the next snare hits. The only thing that really seems to need improvement is that it gets a little repetitive, like someone else commented some samples would be a great addition to the track, as well as some variation on the bass. I'm looking forward to hearing the finished tune, this one seems promising.

@Specimen-Yarp - Excellent work my friend, love the comb filters on the bass, and the reverb. Drawn out snares are always cool too. The one thing that caught my ear though, is the key change at the drop is a little jarring. That might be how you want it, which is totally cool, but I would try dropping it down a whole step (2 semitones), it would fit the intro melody a little better. Maybe you could bring the key up at the end, bringing the key up a whole step at the end of the song is pretty common and usually works out well.Bass could maybe use some variation. Great production so far though.

Kickass tracks guys. I love the production forum for this stuff. I'm a total music junkie. :w: :4:

So here's my WIP. I'm particularly looking for feedback on:
-It's super long, I mean 8 minutes is a bit ridiculous. I didn't know how to shorten it though, I REALLY didn't want to take anything out. Do you guys think the length is ok?
-The 80's/whatever-you-want-to-call-it drop at the very end is supposed to come in super intense. So there's the intial 80's sounding part and then it comes back in, I added some strings and an arpeggiator and brought the vocals up. There was supposed to be a lead violin on the right side but it accidentally got muted - whatever you get the point. Basically, the issue is it either ends up sounding like there's too much going on, or it doesn't sound epic enough. I don't know maybe it's fine... I'm just not quite happy.

As usual, any feedback of any sort is appreciated. Anyway here's the track:

EZ all !

So, I have issues with my internet provider so i'm on a crappy laptop using WIFI in Mc Donald's ( the coffee is disgusting here :( ). I will try to give feedback as good as possible but the speakers of the laptop are shit.

@Manic Harmonic : Nice chill tune, lot of 80's stuff on it. Can't say anymore about mixing ( laptop speakers... ) I like this slappy bass ( i'm bass guitarist and it reminds me lot of good things ):D

@Acidrat : Intro is not too bad, but you should add some risers and downlifter. I can't hear your drums after the drop, maybe due to the laptop ( or not ). Bassline looks still. Make it alive and add some variations on it !

@Specimen - Yarp : Intro is fine but it needs something more in the build up. Bassline is sick & filthy as a fuck. Good job in here !

So mine now. Soundcloud Hope you will like it.

I will look answers on my I-phone ( any chance for a DSF APP in the future ? :D )

Cheers
Sorry for my crappy english, not my main language ;)

AcidRat- I like the simplicity and i think thats a really good start, but I would like more movement in the bass!

Specimen- Dude thats a sick track, I really think if you worked on the into a bit more it would make it a whole lot better, the drop is huge and i think needs just a tad more to really give it that huge feeling.

Basebass- Love it man, i say bring the synths out a little bit. They sound really cool, I like the vocals!

Heres mine that I started yesterday, just a rough track but let me know what you think any feedback is much appreciated!

@Applewater

I'm against brostep so probably not the best feedback but I think the hats and snare need a bit of reverb. I'm not really a fan of the jerky drums on the intro but then again a lot of my stuff gets called plop! :lol:. personally though The sub feels a bit weak but I can see where its going I think the mid bass is a bit too smushed together if that makes sense. Maybe add some variation with the top end and add a few more percs with some reverb and delay, to spice it up a bit.

(I am interested to see what it will end up as though, probably something my friends would screwface inna da dance to :W: )

@Darj

Liking the intro breaks most deff!, after the breaks go the tune went a bit flat in the build up and drop for me. The drum work well just that mid bass sounds a bit like a halloweeny thing so I find it a bit hard to take serious. I do like the sub though and it sounds like you been working hard. (Maybe a few more FX and variations to keep it interesting)

@Manic Harmonic

Interesting tune you got there, got a real nice vibe like how its constantly switching up. Reminds me of something that wouldnt be out of place in a manga like ghost in the shell got that futurey feel to it :W: .
I think the top end is a bit low maybe bring that up a bit and maybe eq the snare top end a bit so it comes through a bit clearer (Unless the under sound you was going for)

Not been producing (Well attempting to) for a while, really went off it thought F**K IT! but having been up 34 hours straight I decided to start on this and I'm not too sure if its the lack of sleep making me pleased with it so I was going to get a second op :lol:

@BassBass

Sounds really good mate, though the volume of the track is wicked low. I like the synth that pops in, but I think it could be a lot quieter. All in all, fantastic work. Drums could be a bit more interesting, as well.

@AMPR

What are you using to make this? I like the opening synth. The "drop" is a bit abrasive... Maybe you could lead into it? It's also a tad repetitive. Mix it up a little, throw in some stutter notes every now and then, some random percussion. I'm gonna get so much crap for saying this, but listen to Skrillex. No 2 bars are ever the same; he mixes it up as much as possible.

@Cheeky
I agree, make the resonance less high pitched, maybe lower the intensity. Is it a formanted synth? That could be why. It's a bit pitchy, which kinda hurts after a bit. Other than that, really groovin track. Work on your cymbal samples, mix them up a bit, change the EQ for each hit so it sounds more natural. Lot of work, but it pays off.

@Specimen-Yarp
I like the intro. Automated cutoff, I'm guessing? Good lead in. Gets people very excited for the song, and provides a lovely buildup. Oh dear sweet jesus, that drop. Scuse me, I have to stop critiquing now, because I need to get my pants back from the other side of my room due to that drop.

@Acidrat

I'm not a fan of the opening bass synth you have, but it works well for the song. Coming to the drop... AAAAAAAH THAT SYNTH IS SO FUCKING AWESOME. SORRY IF I CAN'T SWEAR ON THE FORUMS. AAAAH. I LOVE IT. GOOD WORK!!!!!!!

And now for mine.

BEFORE YOU LISTEN, it's important that you know 2 things. One; this is a very bare-bones work in progress. I have no idea where it's going, and I'm still working heavily on it. It's just a baby in song form, and has a lot of growing up to do. Two, I'm completely aware the drums are godawful.

Enjoy!

My latest endeavor. This is just the intro, which still needs work as it is.
If you comment on the actual track via soundcloud, I will listen to one of your tracks and comment on it as well since its easier for me.

First I'd like to say I've been following this forum for the past month and it has been a big help to me! There are a lot of wise people here, thank you for sharing your knowlege!

Anyway here goes,

@Cheeky - :mrgreen: Big tune! Loving the room it has, also digging the hats. break could use something.

@Acidrat - Very ruskoesque :W: (if thats even a word lol). Liking the bass, could change up the drums a bit more.

@Applewater - Digging the bass very dirty :6: . Drums need some work, eq? they don' t sound right.

Ok here's mine

theres no resonance on it at all, or any resampling. its a standard straight out of the synth patch with only albinos built in effects used and a bit of eq

R3N3gAD3 - I think the synths could use some tweaking; they aren't doing it for me. Maybe too weak.
LucasKane - Love it, almost sounds old school. Nothing to bitch about yet on my end.
Applewater - I think there should be more of a buildup to the drop, didn't do the song justice imo.

Been on writers block over this one, really want to get it done. Give me your worst, please.
