fractal wrote:Yeah, good flashback. Don eladio alluded to "knowing who Gus was" when he didn't kill him. Wonder who he is exactly. Even back then he was balling enough to put his homie through college twice, open a resturaunt and cook meth, he just wasnt a G yet. Wonder if he went through some stuff similar to walt that made him become who he is today? Hmmmm
possibly :o
Im also thinking his sparing of Jessie could relate to his old friendship with the kid, he knows what it's like to lose a partner.

Not that anyone seems to care, but it seems it was Steven Bauer (Scarface) in the final scene. Thought that was cool.

I think it's more just a way to explain why Gus is the way he is.

He doesn't seem to have a personal life or friendships at all. I think it's probably all due to a fear that if he does, someone will take advantage of that, exploit it and kill them.

Don't care how unbelieveable the scene where Gus walked at that sniper was, it was absolutely badass.

okay

time to drop some knowledge on... 'y'all'

Check this.....

Hector/Tio, the actor who plays him is Mark Margolis. Margolis is the surname of Jane and her dad.

Mark Margolis (Hector) and Steve Bower (Don Eladio) were both in Scarface.

Hectors name in Scarface is Alberto.

Maxamino Arciniega (Gus set up scholarship in memory of him, scholarship that Gail got) is the name of the actor who played Krazy-8.

General Alberto Arciniega was a political military chief during Pinochet's reign. He was the person who made deals with drug dealers to limit the violence in the trade.

Lots of connections between Scarface characters, Pinochets regime (wiki it) and Gus. We still dont know Gus' proper name. According to Hank, before 1996 Gus is a ghost.

In one of the flashback scenes (in an earlier series), where it shows Gus being allowed to do business with the cartel, Hector refers to Gus as "the big generalisimo" - General Alberto Arciniega - Was Gus a general in Pinchoets regime? Is it more likely (due to age, Pinochet was 73-90) that Gus is a son/nephew of General Arciniega? We know he's important already as he hasn't been killed. Who the fuck is Gus???

well didn't the writer say at the start of the show that it was gonna end in some scarface style shootout. not surprising to see these links, the pinochet angle is definitely an interesting one, one of britains most loved mass murderers.

Nice work. Even if none of that means anything, the red herrings add so much tension to this show.

I love this show so much. Like, I am borderline obsessed. Anyway, below is a preview for next week.

Regarding the discussion on whether or not any of the characters are likeable/have retained their morality I would argue that Jesse has. I root for him. Everything that has happened to him is beyond his control and I view him as a victim in many ways. Jane's death, murdering Gale, Andrea's nephew's murder, etc. Granted he has made some choices that have had terrible repurcussions such as Combo's death. That was, as Saul Goodman said, an "occupational hazard" of dealing drugs. Obviously his choice to use is also a negative one, but I would argue that drug addiction is a disease.

That said, it's hard to feel anything for Walt. He's an abusive husband, manipulative "business" partner, and is essentially a child. He's such a shell of a man. Acting tough then walking into Los Pollos with the tracking device, showing Gus how good he is that he didn't place it on Gus' car - like a kid getting caught red handed. His scheme to get the lab cleaned ended up getting those women who worked at the laundry sent on "a bus to Guatemala" (whatever that means). As demonstrated in "Bug" he can't see how plagued Jesse is by having to murder Gale. Fuck Walt, he's an awful person.

Like I said, obsessed.

As much as Walt is not the guy he was at the beginning, I'm not sure those are good points you make. He's not an abusive husband, Skyler is a whore. The tracker thing was in everyone's best interests, he knows they will kill Hank and his family no problem if they get in the way. He's a c**t yeah, but I like him more than I did in season 3 a to be honest.

Still think Jesse is going to go mental at some point and kill everyone.

As someone who works in a rape crisis center and has worked with DV victims (and abusers), he most definitely is. Like when Skyler kicked him out for peddling meth - a very legit reason to kick your husband out of your house - he comes back. That scene where he picked up Holly and was holding her while Skyler talked to the cops, putting on an act, is classic abusive behavior. And if you're only reason for defending him is a misogynistic comment then that's not a very good one.

He's greedy, manipulative, and should have refused Gus' offer in the first place if he actually cared about his family. The original offer was $3 million for 3 months of his time. Then done. First, you don't trust drug kingpins. Second, he was already making bank with just him and Jesse doing it. Just quit while you're ahead and be done with it. Dude had to have close to $1 million already. Then once he kicks the bucket, life insurance comes in, etc and you're family would be sorted for a while.

Of course if he didn't take the offer there would be no show...
