I just read through "NEW TO DUBSTEP? A guide to start with is here."

Assuming that is the mindset for most people on here, I now understand where all the sarcasm comes from. I doubt you'll pay any attention to this but if you want to welcome new people into your community a lot has to change. I was friendly and said nothing aggressive or offensive and got flamed to pieces just based on ignorance.

What an absolutely ridiculous idea.

None if this has anything to do with a guitar btw.
Please elaborate on why you think this is a ridiculous idea. Guitar Hero has nothing to do with playing guitar either. The shape of the controller and title don't mean anything It is a rhythm game and synth sequences work extremely well in rhythm games

it's the internet. grow some thicker skin, you fuckin pussy :corntard:

OP, the term "dubstep" was co-opted by the mainstream to mean a different genre than what the people here at dubstepforum.com listen to. People are understandably a bit bummed out over this. Add to the fact that a lot of people here are insufferable elitist twats and the result is that any newcomer that even mentions skrillex will get a hit by a barrage of abuse, alpacas and facepalm macros.

I'm sure a lot of people will find your guitar hero track pack interesting. you won't get a lot of positive feedback on this forum though

So, you wanting to include this kind of music into a game like Guitar Hero, causing it to spread through an even larger public, while it being labeled as Dubstep is exactly the same as what those videos are doing. I think that's why you received this immense pile of negative comments.

And the reason why most of us are so 'sensitive' about this is, I think, because in a way we are seeing something that we love getting raped by the mass public. Truly, I don't hate on Skrillex as a person, nor do I hate the people that listen to his music. And yes, I personally can't stand listening to his music, but that's why I don't listen to it at all and try to stay away from it as much a possible.
It's just the fact that everyone is calling it Dubstep that aggravates me. Because it simply isn't Dubstep.
I try not to pay too much attention to it, but sometimes it just makes me mad when I hear these 15 year old hipster kids talk about how sick Dubstep is and pretend like they know all about it while they clearly know fuck all about the genre because they're talking about a new Skrillex tune.
Also the fact that all them lot seems to be calling it "Dub" lately proves how ignorant they all are. Dub isn't an abbreviation for Dubstep, it's an entirely different genre of music.
Thanks man, for levelling with me. I really didn't need all of that disrespectful bitterness from the other guys because I am very open minded and like to appreciate things from as many different perspectives as I can. This is the response I have been waiting to see and I do appreciate everything you are saying. That said, there is zero chance of the "mainstream" interpretation changing now it has become common knowledge. For every person enjoying "real" dubstep for the past decade there are 1000 people who found Skrillex in the past year and they are all calling it dubstep. I will continue to refer to it as dubstep too and yeah, I will now KNOWINGLY contribute to even more misinterpretation. Why? Because the term "dubstep" is what sold those videos to millions of people and it is also what will sell my guitar hero project to people who listen to the music I am charting. 99/100 people searching "dubstep" on the web today are looking for electrohouse/dirty electro or whatever the correct term is and I have to follow that otherwise fans of guitar hero and those songs aren't going to find my work!

I am sorry. No, not for contributing to even more misunderstanding, but that your genre is most definitely getting pooped on by mainstream culture. :?
Hate to break it to you buddy, but if that is the attitude you are going to come into this site with, your better off taking your video to be Brostepforum.com. You are only going to get hate from us especially if you post your brostep videos and expect us to enjoy them. More than 90% of us will not. :t:

he's right though, "dubstep" DOES mean skrillex et. al. for 99% of people, who happen to be his intended audience.

This brostep term isn't going to get you anywhere. I honestly would advise you rebrand your genre to brostep and just let us overtake these forums :U: I realise what you are saying but the forums most likely get new members every day looking for people to discuss the latest skrillex track with. I assume they all get kicked the shit out of when they mention his name, and then they leave. I'm opened minded (and as you can see, stubborn as hell) and decided to stick around to have a good moan about music genres and stuff. If I have made an impression on any of you who were previously extremely closed minded, then I feel my time here has been a success. Based on some of the educated responses I have had, I am pleased to say that I have actually made some of you think about things in a different light.

Get off your high horse mate.

I may have tried to politely explain to you why you got these negative reactions, but that doesn't mean that I give a fuck about what you have to say and definitely not that you made an impression on me or made me think differently about things.
I still majorly disagree with your ridiculous idea and my opinion on this shit music will never change.

Your not going to "convert" us to listening to that shit. Plain and simple. I can see that you are stubborn, I am going to let this thread slowly die while you attempt to make an "impact" on us all.

Why can't you just use a song that is actually dubstep though? Seriously?

Like, I'm not saying that you should switch to making Mala tracks for guitar hero, but why use an electro house song and tell people its dubstep when there's plenty of Skrillex/Nero/Flux/Datsik tunes that are actually a kind of dubstep and would be well received by the crowd you're aiming at? I'm assuming you like those artists... Why take electro house and call it dubstep when you could just use dubstep that sounds very similar? :u:

I'm really not understanding your logic here and your attempts to take the high road and act like you're somehow more mature than everyone else here are pretty pathetic.

I never tried to change your music preferences. I'm asking you to be more open minded and stop acting like a pack of over protective know it alls picking on everyone who comes onto these forums unaware how bitter some of you are. And no, some people HAVE shown that they are in fact more open minded than they originally appeared so I have made an impression with my posts. If I was talking complete shit nobody would bother replying to the thread.

Because the bass drop and LFO automation elements in the tracks I am charting makes them dubstep to my puny mind. I am past the point of going out of my way to justify why.

ok I'm just gonna answer my part of this quote. Are you implying that bass drops are something exclusive to dubstep? Drum & bass/jungle has been using the term 'bass drop' since the early 90s, similar thing with house, techno, trance etc. although I couldn't give you dates there.

Speaking of D&B, its had LFO in it for years, therefore drum & bass = dubstep? (=Burial=Loefah=Funtcase=DJ Wanka?)
