iPod question

Post by Mr Hyde » Sat Sep 17, 2011 10:34 am

Even though I have returned iPods before I thought they might have improved so I bit the bullet and got an iPod 160 (part exchange for a creative zen player), disappointed with the sound quality, volume and lack of programmable EQ (even though I had been told in an apple store that iTunes presets can be transferred 'its what I do with mine' said the 'genius'), but other than that all fine and having the big capacity is good. Couple of questions I'm having trouble finding online answers to someone here might know:

- My laptop hard drive is at full capacity with 120GB of iTunes music, this is synched with the 160GB iPod so I have 40GB free and I'd like to keep it synched. I have a load of music (mostly mixes, so don't need to be in a decent library) on an external hard drive too- can I get this onto the iPod while keeping the 120GB iTunes library synched?

- Any recommends to make the volume louder? goPod work or is it going to be more trouble than its worth?

Quick question...

Are you living in 2008?
And how will you inquire into a thing when you are wholly ignorant of what it is? Even if you happen to bump right into it, how will you know it is the thing you didn't know?

80, 120, 160 GB USB (FireWire for charging only) 5 September 2007 Mac: 10.4
Win: XP 80 GB
audio: 30
video: 5 120 GB
audio: 36
video: 6 160 GB
2007 model
audio: 40
video: 7
2009 model
audio: 36
video: 6
Introduced the "Classic" suffix. New interface and anodized aluminum front plate. Silver replaces white. In September 2008 the hardware and firmware was updated with a 120 GB model replacing the 80 GB model and the 160 GB model was discontinued. In September 2009, the 120GB model was replaced with a 160GB model.

I do apologise. Are you living in 2009?

Huh? I still don't follow- so I'm using a player that was first released 2 years ago? So? There still isn't anything out there with a bigger capacity. Doesn't really answer my questions- do you think you're taking the piss or something?

TBH to deal with the volume issue I invested in the Fii0 E7 headphone amp

http://www.amazon.co.uk/FiiO-Portable-H ... pd_cp_ce_4

like it makes it a little unweildy but it gives a much better sound even at lower volumes, you'd want the L3 line out as well to have it running as a DAC.

It's not ideal but it seems the best way to get the sound while having your entire library available to you

You know about the whole european ipods being volume capped right? Not sure which ones have got a workaround for it atm, but theres sometimes a simple solution.

You crazy foolz all gotta try and take the piss or double guess everything rather than helping?! I've got my reasons!

Some headphones need a lot more power than in-ear ones, also it needs to be louder for portable mini speakers and the car radio pick up, also plugging into the home amp it's loads quieter than the other inputs- which isn't a big deal cos can turn the amp up but a hassle when you switch back to another input and nearly blow the speakers!

I'd just go for it, but then again my ipods not brand new and I think its out of warranty anyway.

EDIT: I don't think the latest ipods are supported with gopod, i remember having the same problem when I had a classic.

Use winamp to load on songs instead of itunes, and youll be able to put all 160 gb on there

Edit: so you can carry 80 days of continuous music with you instead of merely just 60 :|

Aye but it's hard to find a good mp3 player with that much memory.

I know, I figured someone would say that. That's where ipods excel true, but I don't see the point in having that much music or videos in your pocket tbh. The size seems to be their main selling point though.

Anyway, friend of mine in Europe said she uses EUPod and iMod depending on the player model. I think iMod is an actual firmware hack so I wouldn't mess with it unless it directly supports that model. Maybe they do or or have been updated. Not sure. http://www.ipodplus.net/ipod/01/increas ... ume-eupod/

There's this too http://redwineaudio.com/imod
(not the iMod firmware hack)

They really volume capped the iPods in Europe? I thought they were gonna do it here but they just put a option for a level cap that parents can set but they will still go hurt your ears loud. :d. I don't like iPods cause they break but my itouch 4g has served me well since christmas so far
