well, to me albums need an arc and flow to work as a whole. Sully and I spent time on the tracklist and ordering so it coalesces into something that's greater than the sum of it's parts. To then do a vinyl version and rip one part out made no sense. (in more practical terms, we were also helped that the album is quite short, so can fit on a one-piece vinyl that you can listen to, one side at a time).grillis wrote:it's a great 12" on it's own tho- maybe for the cd release or something, I was a bit confused why In Some Pattern is on the vinyl release of the album as well.

What's the likelihood of seeing more LP releases on keysound? Would've loved one for Roots.blackdown wrote:well, to me albums need an arc and flow to work as a whole. If "Carrier" goes well we'll definitely think about it. we love vinyl.garethom wrote:What's the likelihood of seeing more LP releases on keysound? Would've loved one for Roots.

My copy waiting for me on my desk at work when I got in this morning - Monday antidote! I'd definitely pick up a copy of Routes on vinyl if it was available...
Re: Sully debut LP
Interesting, definitely see where you're coming from and I think for listening purposes this is quite practical. It's not often you get a vinyl 'LP' that isn't a reduced version of the digital/CD release (Von D's 'Daydreaming' or Breakage's 'Foundation' for instance). This kind of relates back to why I asked whether there would be separate vinyl samplers release (12" with two-tracks like LDN015) to cater to those mixing strictly on vinyl. Obviously the vinyl LP release can be used for the purposes of mixing, but I personally find that the limitations of these sort of 'jam-packed' vinyl releases sometimes cause them to become forgotten amongst my record bags.blackdown wrote:well, to me albums need an arc and flow to work as a whole. Re: Sully debut LP
It's a good album in general but in terms of the CD release it just doesn't like an album to me. More like some tracks he made a few years ago, and then some more tracks that he made this year/last year just thrown together.
The garage-esque tracks are excellent and the juke style tunes are ok.

Re: Sully debut LP
this is true. i like the jukey tracks but i feel like there's 1 or 2 too many. just a couple at the end would have done it for me.steshine wrote:The garage-esque tracks are excellent and the juke style tunes are ok.
then again i'm not the biggest juke fan, i'm sure some people are liking those tracks more than the garagey/housey ones.
Re: Sully debut LP
^Seen! I'm loving the jukeish joints!!! Whole album is ace imo

To me, there is a definite coherence to the album. I dont think the mixture of garage/house/juke styles feels forced whatsoever. Each to their own of course, but I wouldn't say it sounds like a bunch of tracks thrown together. A great listen from start to finish. Keysound have provided two of the albums of the year for me.steshine wrote:It's a good album in general but in terms of the CD release it just doesn't like an album to me. Amazing album through and through. If anyone's in or around London this Saturday it would be worth catching him at Rhythm Factory.

Re: Sully debut LP
I just received this and like what I hear quite a lot. I think all the songs work, regardless whether they're more on the Garage or Juke tip. The only thing that pisses me off is the absolutely unacceptable constant crackle from the record. Anyone else have that problem? Some of my old Hip hop records that have been battered to death for 10+ years sound cleaner than this. And no, it's not sampled static.

Re: Sully debut LP
not to point fingers here, perhaps your copy is bad, but have you checked your equipment? I found no problem (the only static I heard was sampled) and I shouldn't expect lowly or scrappy mastering/production from Transition Mastering...Headlock666 wrote:I just received this and like what I hear quite a lot.
