Aye but it's hard to find a good mp3 player with that much memory.
I know, I figured someone would say that. That's where ipods excel true, but I don't see the point in having that much music or videos in your pocket tbh. The size seems to be their main selling point though. Anyway, friend of mine in Europe said she uses EUPod and iMod depending on the player model. I think iMod is an actual firmware hack so I wouldn't mess with it unless it directly supports that model. Maybe they do or or have been updated. Not sure. http://www.ipodplus.net/ipod/01/increas ... ume-eupod/ There's this too http://redwineaudio.com/imod (not the iMod firmware hack)
Nice one, I'll check that. And yeah, the creative zen player was much better sound quality- very disapointing that they cant sort it out for iPods.....but this iPod is the only thing out there with 160GB capacity, and it annoyed me when I wanted to listen to tunes I know I have but hadn't been able to fit it on the old 32GB creative player.

iPods suck bigtime, I have a 160 gig but accidently deleted the music on my computer (the music was on my iPod already) now I can't put new songs/sets on my iPod because I would lose all the old stuff (and there are some gems on it) :u: :u: :u: :u: :u: :u: :u: :u: :u:

some way to download from ur iPod to pc?

download diskaid and it lets you transfer songs from your ipod to your computer. had to do it a couple times when i had to reformat my computer. good luck!

i fucking hate the volume cap, ive got a 5th gen nano and its fucking shite. ive gotta turn up the tracks on itunes. preamp +100. even then all it does is make it go to full volume quicker. i.e full volume is reached after 70%. i cant use it at parties or anything wayyy to quiet.

last time i buy a European ipod. why do they they get to choose how loud it goes.

You can use this(http://www.rockbox.org/) firmware on certain ipods instead. Completely new firmware but it has dual boot, no volume cap, really detailed customizable eq and it's just generally very customizable. Had it on my sansa clip and it was fantastic.

in answer to your initial question (i think) I've been in the same situation. you need to have your ipod as manual, rather than automatic syncing on itunes for starters. that way, when you load your music off of your hard drive onto itunes, it doesn't need to be plugged in every time. however, if you want itunes to sync play-count wise etc with your ipod every time, you need all of your music in its original source, ie have the hard drive plugged in. only down side of doing it like this is that every time you want to add music to the ipod you have to manually drag and drop, but it's not too big a problem.

hope that helped :)

nice one man, so I need to put all of my itunes music on the external hard drive then open itunes and direct its file source to read from the files on the external rather than the usual laptop hard drive, then manually synch the ipod with it?

....I wish they'd just allow the iPod to be like other mp3 players where you can just drag and drop files on/off.

you can - when you're ipod's plugged in you can switch it to manual rather than automatically synced, and you can drag and drop what you want

My iPod sucks, every eq setting makes songs clip, crackle and pop.

cool, seems a lot more straight forward than I was making it!

yeah, different headphones/systems need different EQ- what sort of player still only has arbitrary 'rock, pop, jazz' settings? so you settle for one like 'deep' or 'bass' and it just distorts- I don't get how everyone doesn't hear it and why iPods are so crap with it, 'bass' just basically clips and distorts bass however good your headphones are or how low you have the output turned, how can they be so shit with it? its like they've made a music player with the main focus being operating system/battery life/looks etc but paid pretty much no attention to how good it is at actually playing music.

My english teacher gave me a weird look when I mentioned that as the musical instrument I played. Like the wtf stare. I had to give her the 'wiki wiki' dj motion to confirm what i meant.

things are recorded and EQ'd to be middle of the road and 'okay' for everything, your car or home stereo or in ear headphones or DJ cans are all need different EQ to sound their best. if nothing recorded ever needed EQing then anything DJ's play at wouldn't have sound desks.
