I use 3*osc for almost every sound in my tunes (except for drums, which usually are processed 808/909 sounds or samples from dub records)
Everythin else is coming from real instruments.
Also i love Tal-dub I-III

I've been using various tube/tape warmers and coloring compressors waaaayyyy too much lately. It sounds nice and warm but if you do it on nearly every pad, the song just sounds dull. I have no idea how Telefon Tel Aviv pulled it off. Probably because they used real tape. Damn I want a reel-to-reel.

I always thought that filtering was to be done before disto? This way you remove any harmonics that may be amplified due to distortion?therapist wrote:Distort>Filter>Reverb, I just do it to everything without even realising.

whatever sounds good. you could do Reverb>Distortion>Filter as long as it sounds good. The best thing about music is that there are no rules. just suggestions. I don't know of many musicians that are receptive to suggestions.Aphile wrote:I always thought that filtering was to be done before disto? I've been using Synplant multiple times in every track. I want to make a whole track with just synplant and microtonic.

Re: What plugin/technique/etc do you embarassingly (over)use
I make my drums separately from my tunes, mix them independently, then throw them into the mix, and ghetto rig my DAW into a triple (sometimes four) band compressor, then parallel compress that bitch until I have to eq every single track around the drums, then I usually end up putting a fuckload of reverb on my pads then accidentally bouncing them, then later seeing that there is no reverb on the mixer channel and putting more reverb on.
I also subconsciously end up eq'ing out the mid lows, so I just quit making basslines. I stick to pure sine or square waves split into two signals so I can slam anything above 100hz with saturation if I'm feeling dirty.
I think the icing on the cake is that I leave my master channel untouched
