I thought there was an unwritten rule in dubstep about sampling ballads

gotta say, coki's stuff is big but this tune is proper cheeziness but not good by any means. the vocals suck, the beat is just standard... i don't know about this one.. i generally have the feeling with all this dubstep buzz going on that everybody is all hype about every tune (especially from big names like coki, skream, dmz, etc).... don't get me wrong, most of the stuff is ill, but there still is a lot of shit being released... just because it has a deep bassline doesn't make it a good tune...

how DARE you say that about minnie riperton? it's an absolute classic and she demands respect just for having a vocal range that ridiculous.dubwise_gamgee wrote:the vocals suck
i don't think coki's is a great tune, purely cos he hasn't really done all that much with it. but i like it cos i like the original. i'd like to hear some heavyweight dubstep under the vocal, but it might drown it.

well, yeah, you're right. the vocal qualities are definitely dope but i say "the vocals suck" in context of that remix. if you want a nice love ballad, take the original but come on that remix is just baad... especially if you compare it (productionwise and musically) to all the other coki stuff (especially the newer dubs)...
I think it's a good track with plenty of good points. A simple bassline that bubbles along, complementing rather than taking over the vocal. And why just because they do very little with the vocal is it shit? Some of the best tunes ever made were 3 chord riffs or samples repeated over and over again.
I think the problem is, since the vocals are talking about love all the hard men out there can't handle it, think it's cheesy or 'gay'. Jokers.
Just a little comparison - Coki's refix of Richie Spice's Marijuina was devastatingly simple and did very little with the vocal. But because that is talking about smoking weed it's cool.
Remember, big men can love as welll as rumble.
Large up Coki. Bringing a bit of diveristy to the reggae vocal rip that dubstep is currently languishng in.
Big up Delendi, you know Minnie is the best.
