Waves Bundle?

Post by [asterisk] » Mon Sep 26, 2011 6:29 pm

Hey guys, i have the opportunity to pick up the Waves Mercury Complete v7 bundle from a pro studio I used to part time at back home for a fraction of the retail cost. Haven't seen much discussion on here about these plug-ins and I haven't used them before but I know they're quality. So even though it's a great deal, it's still a lot of money and I'm on the fence about whether it's a good investment. Any of you guys use this gear regularly? I've been researching the whole package and the sheer amount of tools in the pack is quite intimidating to say the least. I've read that, ahem, Skrill, or his engineer at least ;) uses their hybrid comps, but just going through and learning each module looks like it will take quite a while. Any thoughts?

They are my standard digital plugins for compression and EQ and in that respect they're fantastic. Dunnow how resource hungry they are though as I run a Pro Tools HD setup.

The only ones I liked were the SSL ones.

the tony maserati plugs are awesome,as are the clearmountain and other emulations. back in the augts, the rencomp and renEQ were THE go-to plugins; at least on logic's end, the included ones beat the rennaisance plugs.

definitely some standard-bearer plugs in there tho-- L2, L3, Rbass, enigma; the c4 is a solid multiband comp, and the noise cancelling plugs were OK, though sonnox kinda killed them with that.

in an ideal world, though, i'm never gonna own an ilok, so that renders them useless.

IMO overpriced. They aren't bad, but there's better stuff around for much cheaper as mentioned. Besides Sonnox, SPL, Fabfilter, Voxengo, Izotope, Sonalksis put out equal or better plugins. I'm sure there's other devs I'm forgetting. With the Waves bundle, a lot of the cost is the name and compatibility since they have been industry standard for many years, so it's likely any pro studio you go into will have Waves for your session. When plugins are spread out, it's less likely they will support or have each different one.

they sound nice, but are very expensive. and a lot of the plugins are old now. i like the fabfilter stuff more tbh, the eq is great.

Thanks for all the input guys. Wasn't gonna list my "discount" but what the hell. I was offered the bundle for a grand, which as you know is a significant price cut from retail, but still a good chunk of change. Also I'm hoping to talk them down a bit more as well. So basically I guess I'll have to weigh how much I'll spend in the future on all my mastering software (fabfilter and izotope stuff, ect) since I currently have none, and compare that with getting this massive bundle in one shot. Thankfully due to my ties with the studio I have some time to think hard and research on it more!

I used the waves eq and compressors for a while but have now ditched them for the fabfilter pro c and q.

they are very good. the artsist series are all nice tools but seem a little processor heavy at times. all about Rbass, the C4, L3, the ssl series (the g channel is wicked) and jjp strings & keys for me :5: the paz analyzer is quality as well

Noted. Definitely going to research fabfilter's stuff more, heard nothing but good things about them. But I've also had the pleasure of using a quarter mill SSL desk before, and if the plugins touch it, quality and character wise, they'd be worth the price of the pack alone. Anybody know if they come in the Mercury bundle? If not I'll check on that after work.

I bought the api eq compressor bundle and the classic compressor bundle,i find them pretty useful but hate having to use the ilok.Worth the money i spent,I got them in a sale so i think they had like 40% off or something like that.

Very overpriced.
Makes me wonder why people crack software.
