Here is my new WIP I would absolutely love feedback on (I posted an earlier draft a few days ago, this is the improved version)

I can't listen at the moment, but I will give full feedback for other tracks in a few hours when I can! Thanks

Further development. I appreciate all the feedback so far. This is still very rough, no real transitions worked out (just layering clips) But I have a bit more development, less repetition, and so on. I would say this is pretty much still just the first part and I'm working towards a build up and eventual drop into a second part.

I've done some tweaks to some of the sounds and I do need to still work out the sub bass. I've tried to add a bit of saturation, but I'm getting a sort of metallic ringy overtone I don't like.

@subsynth Sounds very basic at the moment you need to make it sound a bit more organic, I would reccomend some reverb for a start (I'm a reverbhead) on the top end and snare. I don't like the crazy trancey stab going on its a bit loud and it doesnt really fit the mood imo. I would keep the pad and maybe just layer it a bit to fill it up and whack some FX over. Sub seems ok but my sub is a bit f***ed at the moment.

@Noisestorm Pretty good tune you got there if your into wobbly (I'm anti-brostep) everything works well nothing I can really complain about sounds just as good as all the other wobbly bits coming out by datsik and all them lot. (Probably prefer yours over theirs tbh) :W:

My current WIP any feedback appreciated!

@Noisestorm
Not a huge fan of this kinda dubstep (though its a lot of fun at parties, dancing drunk and such) but everything sounds very clean. Nice powerful drums, good rhythm (love the kick drum placement, especially dug the galloping kick drum in the buildup), good fat bass, samples fit well. It seems like you got the vibe you were going for, I'd dance to this :lol:

@subsynth
For starters, the drums need a lot of work. They sound very, weak and thin. Definitely try some layering, a bit of reverb, maybe even light distortion/saturation. The first synth that comes in I really don't think works, sounds kind of cheesy and way too dry. The whole song could use some effects, everything sounds very dry and doesn't seem to go together too well, imo. On the other hand, this really isn't the kind of electronic music I dig, so some of it might have to do with that. In general, I think your sounds would benefit from layering (especially drums) and maybe some effects to just make them mesh better.

@InTheCrowd
Nice drum sounds, dig the minimal vibe. Not crazy about a couple of the sounds in the intro (the laser sounding thing, mostly), just don't think they fit 100% with the vibe you got going so far, but that could change based on how it progresses. That's just how I feel though. Not to mention, they don't fit badly at all, just not great. Anyway, also liked the bass with the delay (I think) and the nice low wobble that comes in every couple measures.

Anyway, here's a little dubby thing I've been working on the past couple days. Just a few rough ideas but I'm pretty happy with how its coming on. Not structured too much yet, and this is my first time using any vocals so those definitely need work. I have a feeling its just my room, but I feel like when the bass plays a B3 on my woofer it gets an odd resonance/volume peak, but I haven't noticed it in the mixer, so should be fine. Also, any suggestions for denoising the vocals would be appreciated. I sampled them from Down By Law (Tom Waits's character singing towards the beginning) and there's a lot of white noise in the background. I've tried denoising in edison, but some of his singing's almost as quiet as the noise, so that gets cut out... Anyway, let me know what you guys think, especially in terms of the mix.

Soundcloud

EDIT: I also listened to it again, and I feel like the lead that comes in after the break (like a minute in) might sound a little too haunting (I guess) for this track, so try to pay attention to that as well.
Thanks again

@Noisestorm OMG thats really good! So swingy! Only thing I don't like is the doubling up of the kicks in the buildup. Seriously, let me know when this one is finished.

@subsynth it sounds alright, I hear potential, but at this time it isn't sounding amazing. The arrangement, I feel, could be done better and the melodies could be worked on. Theres also too much noise/clutter in your lead synth.

@InTheCrowd Those drums are tight, the track sounds really clean and I really like.

@DubbyConqueror It sounds really un-present. There seems to be little to no highs and the track isn't very clear. don't know if that is what you were going for or what, but its real vibey...I feel that if it was more present in the high end, it would sound much better but it's your call

Heres something I just WIPped up after talking to ledgend4ry about pads and whatnot. I think I might make something out of it.

Noisestorm: Not much to say, you're awesome! I'm loving the frantic sound of everything and all the reverse hits. I suspect you'll be getting signed before too long

Subsynth: Reminds me of goa trance, which is a good thing! I tried a similar idea in my own track, actually. You manage to use lots of dirty midrange sounds while still keeping that deep, vibey feel and being very unique. The problem I see is your drums are pretty quiet/weak, but it sounds like that may have been intentional.

InTheCrowd: Just getting into this kind of dubstep, but I like it. All that odd percussion reminds me of Burial, and it's got some super heavy bass. I don't have much criticism to offer since it's so well done.

Here's mine. Just started it yesterday so I don't have much, but thought I'd post it. I'm not anywhere near as good as a lot of people here but I'm trying to improve so any comments are very appreciated! (also, just a shot in the dark here but anyone have good ideas for an artist name /song names? I suck at coming up with names)

Edit: I just reuploaded a slightly updated version but I'm not sure when it will show up here. Hopefully this works... (fixed a few timing issues with the drums, sidechained the bass, tweaked the mixdown a bit)

Yeah, I was going for a real warm, dubby sound, but I guess I got a bit carried away :lol:
I'm gonna try to kick up the cutoff on some of the filters a bit and see if I like it. Though I really like distant low passed leads like that, (I'm becoming a bit of a treble hater recently) The whole thing is getting a bit muddy. Thanks for the feedback

EDIT: Alright, found part of the problem. For some reason the bass's LPF was jumping back to like 200hz (Instead of around 500 where I wanted it) everytime I started the song, must've been something with FL's "init song in this position". Anyway, fixed that, and rolled up the cutoff a bit on the leads and organ, not as muddy now.

@Ascian-Oh! Bama tune is huge! thick bass nice growls, big up. digging the electro funk style synth at around 1.55 though it doesn't seem to fit the rest of the tune.

@NightlightIntro is interesting, break before the drop seems a bit thin, maybe a tad too long. didn't like that high pitched synth that comes in around 1.33 at first, but it kinda grows on you after a few listen's.

@-Killerkat Not a huge fan of the samples from street fighter 2 but, other than that great start. Love the dark atmosphere! very creepy!

Started this one a few days ago, couldn't stand to work on my first tune any more lol.

Let me know what you think

I love how the people who don't give feedback receive it, yet when you give feedback you don't :corndance:

@InTheCrowd - sub sounds nice and subtle but deep. like your classy sample use and the haunting percs. keep up the building, has the works of a huge track. i would give the snare a bit more strength.

@jrisreal - add yourself some good sub and a good snare and you've got yourself a nice chinstroker... i like the good pad work.

@nnny - i'm enjoying your tune actually, it's a roller. i would work on the levels of your drums though, they sound a bit weak. but the atmos and the bass sound real nice.

Word... Isn't it the main rule of this thread that you gotta give at least 3 people feedback to post a track?

@KingGhost : Love the little raindrop sound, the snare is sharp i like it, sub bass is cool! work the synth a little more maybe? In overall it sound cool!

@nnny : Wow I love it, it's really really deep, the pads/atmo sounds awesome, like kingGhost said, maybe work on the level of your drum to make it sound a little more present. It's definetly a 4min trip!

@Objekz : Thats a really dark wip. My kind of dubstep. The main wobble should be a little more brighter in my opinion, I think you should bring your hats a little louder, on the drop, maybe try to give space between the ''lets do it'' and the first kick to make the main riff punchier. In my opinion!

Here's my WIP, been working on it for 2 weeks now, lets see what you think!

@Noisestorm I really dig this tune. I feel like some of the kick patterns get a little too busy and cluttered towards the ends of the progressions. I think the layering of one shot synth hits and stabs is really good.

I think the break down, build ups are effective and I really love the hard sync synth melody that comes towards the end. My suggestion would be to maybe expand on that part a little more and introduce it earlier in the song. Maybe in one of the earlier breakdowns...

@dubby I like the vibe, and I think the drums with delay is effective. I'd like to hear another layer that really solidifies a theme or focus

@InTheCrowd
I really like the space in this one, I really like the simple square synth sound. I find some of the drummy FX are a little too wet with reverb, I like the tone of the 'verb, it just doesn't seem to fit in the mix of the rest of the drum and percy sounds.

@Objekz Good beginings, but similar to dubby it really needs a strong melody to give it direction

@acrap This would be a good middle section, I like the brutal stuff when it has some dynamic contrast with other parts. I like the drum sound. Very strong.

@kingGhost I'd like to hear it with a little less verb on those claps, similar to the InCrowd, I like the tone of the 'verb, but feel like a few percent less would build a better drum mix. I really don't have the patience for that sparse of an intro too. I feel like it could establish itself a little sooner.

@tehef9drm I like the drum patterns but the hats are sitting way on top of everything in the mix, the speakers I'm listening on probably aren't helping the situation.
The main wobbly/swooshy bass through most of it isn't doing much for me, it feels a little busy but a little stale at the same time. Maybe mix up the rate a bit, over a wider sweep/range perhaps.

I appreciate all the feedback I've gotten so far, So varied and gives me a lot of things to look at it. it's still in early stages and I look forward to getting feedback as I progress through the stages of my own workflow.
