JAMES BLAKE: “ I find that whole side of things to be pretty frustrating, because that is a direct misrepresentation of the sound as far as I'm concerned.”
Correct, and pretty tragic.

“I think the dubstep forum that has come over to the US, and certain posters-- who I can't even be bothered naming-- have definitely hit upon a sort of frat-boy market where there's this macho-ism being reflected in the posts and the way the post counts makes you look. And to me, that is a million miles away from where dubstep forum started. It's a million miles away from the ethos of it. It's been influenced so much by youtube and facebook, into who can make the dirtiest, filthiest post, almost like a pissing competition, and that's not really necessary. And I just think that largely that is not going to appeal to women. I find that whole side of things to be pretty frustrating, because that is a direct misrepresentation of the forum as far as I'm concerned.”

Says the guy that prefers Datsik to Coki. Just sayin'.

Errrm i don't prefer Datsik to Coki! Dno where u got that one from! I'm not keen on either tbh
errr no coki is so over rated!

Datsik wins this one for me
Dunno how to quote the whole thing from another thread, but you get the idea.

Dont mean to dig up the past but if you think Coki is 'so over rated' you're hardly gonna like JB or care what he has to say on the state of the scene.

Funny how people talk about his "pre-album stuff" when I Never Learnt To Share and Limit To Your Love were on his first Electronic Explorations mix in May 2009, before Air & Lack Thereof was even released.

http://electronicexplorations.org/the-s ... mes-blake/
I started learning to play the piano and sing in primary school, started recording in secondary school, and started producing at university.
Would be interesting to see what people were saying if he had released his album first. And it's not like he has stopped producing dubstep now. Oh well.

Pretty sure i read some Guardian interview about how Blake discovered dubstep in 2008 or something.

The same time as Borgore.

James Blake = Borgore.

I know it's wishful thinking, but I just wish people would quit talking about these artist that they feel degrade Dubstep, and talk about artists they like, or a generality of those who they don't. That is what I like best about JB's statement. In not naming names, he isn't just avoiding a flame war. He's avoiding giving more light to these producers who do not deserve it. These threads serve to bump those artists as much as beatport positioning or anything else.

There are a ton of producers making great, real stuff, right at this moment, and they get hardly any of the publicity they deserve, partially due to this argument being the top of the thread much of the time . How about when the crap stuff becomes a subject of discussion, throw out a shout about a tune by DFRNT, Pacheko, Pistons, or Kuoyah, just off the top of my head.

Everyone saying he's stating the obvious: get out of London sometime wtf :) no one has any idea about the original sound of dubstep.
If you do as much as drop the phrase at a random college/club etc.. you'll hear wobbles on the wubwub skrillex funtcase boom pow within 5 seconds.

exactly. it's obvious to us, but not to the average "dubstep" fan...

not really. i mean yeah, most of his stuff his pretty left field, but the man's performed at DMZ Six... he obviously knows what dubstep is all about.
