Most famous dubstep track?

I'm really surprised stuff like Skrillex has reached the mainstream. Brostep doesn't strike me as very accessible. IMO, there are a lot of tracks that have the potential to be more accessible for the casual music listener than Skrillex. Off the top of my head, I can think of James Blake's album, 'HYPH MNGO' (as the guy above said, anyone with a passing interest in dance music knew of this track, even some of my mates who just torrent the latest clubland album had this playing on their phones), Lando Kal - Further, in fact, a lot of the hotflush stuff.

Maybe if some of these tracks weren't so sample heavy, they'd be pushed a little more. Who knows?

Well I think the success of Katy B, Magnetic Man, etc. in the UK at least proves that there is a more accessible form of dubstep pushing into the mainstream. Just remember that the people who listen to Skrillex are generally not the same people listening to pop radio. I think part of the reason he has so many fans is because he's drawn people from metal, house, techno, hip hop and other popular genres that aren't entirely considered pop music, as well as pretty much every hipster in the known universe. Play a Skrillex tune to a bunch of Rihanna and Lady Gaga fans and a lot of them won't like it, but then play something like Perfect Stranger and you'll probably get a better response. I can see it appealing to an American audience who might have heard the brostep that gets pushed over there but not got down with it for its aggressive sound and lack of lyrics

I've always thought this. There are so many beautiful songs out there, with good lyrics, and great beat, that get totally ignored by the mainstream.

People always say they like mainstream music, cos it has good lyrics etc. Thats just bullshit......its because these ''artists'' are on TV and Radio and they get brainwashed into thinking they like it.

Agree with this to some extent. As the majority of people listening to commercial radio won't ever dig deeper and look for other artists/tracks (not knocking them, I understand that not everybody is as in to music as I am), so just like it because it's there. If you put anything on radio 1 and had Fearne Cotton et al say it was good, a lot of people would begin to like it.

Archangel is liked by a lot of people who don't usually listen to EDM so I actually reckon you could have said that at one point. These days in the UK at least Eastern Jam or Me & You probably. I'm a little surprised that something like The Knowledge didn't get more mainstream success.

This video itself hasn't got many views but it's the best quality i could find quickly.
I'd actually rate this song for being pretty fucking popular, everyone knows what it is when it comes on and it still goes off every time.

Reading the arguments against Skrillex being the most famous is hilarious. I'm not saying he is, but these arguments are weak. Before going back to uni i worked all summer 8-5 mon-fri with radio 1 on nearly 100% of the time. The amount of times i heard Ruffneck was unbelievable.. especially before 10am. Being hungover with very little sleep at work is hard enough, without that being on so early. It was record of the week one week and there didn't go a day that i didn't hear it. Apart from modestep i never heard any other form of dubstep/dnb/garage ect... you get the picture. Was typical radio 1 music during the day with Skrillex added in for some unknown reason.

Coki - Lucifer & Coki - Square Off were the first dubstep tracks i properly listened to apart from Night. I'ma say Night is the most popular, or at least the most popular for its time. La Roux Skream Remix was probably what took it to the next level mainstream wise.. i remember Global Gahtering the year that was released, i heard it no fewer than 6 times.

Recently though it's probably C&S or Nero. People who don't even know what dubstep is or any artists will probably know of C&S. End Credits was hugely popular cause of Harry Brown.

Scary Monsters has more familiarity amongst laypeople than everything you said. That song is insanely popular. I honestly doubt I know a single person under 20 who hasn't heard it.

I've changed my mind.
I went & listened to Scarey Monsters for second time...not all of it but most.
Some parts have elements of dubstep & I can imagine it's allure for kids
It sounds vapid to me but, if having elements of dubstep mean it's considered dubstep,
then I'll concede that it's probably the best known dubstep track in some places including the US & Oz.
More's the pity but, luckily, I get to retreat to my pretentious Utopia
where such dross is quickly recycled along with used condoms & insipid ideas
