Kind of a loosely used term I'd think since it doesn't have a real defined definition, but from my interpretation of it, here are some GREAT tunes within what I consider 'purple'.

in short:

purple sound = big squarewave-based, 80s-esque synth leads

nothing really purple about it other than alot of mentions of that color during the genesis of the sound

You either get the purple connection or you don't.

It can't be taught.

THIS IS THE GREATEST GENRE!!! I knew it as acid crunk before when I first started listening to Mimosa (favorite producer). The goalie by Nasty Nasty is a choice suggestion thanks for that one :) :h:

This is amazing. I can't get enough of this sound. Has anybody heard of Skinnz? Pretty good tunes. Sorry if he has been mentioned before.

Purple Dubstep?

Post by GV1 » Sat Oct 08, 2011 7:07 am

I've only just heard of purple dubstep o_0, but what I'm hearing sounds like "Joker" stuff. Lots of 80's synths with vibrato.

But, did purple dubstep originate from Joker or what he just a producer of it? In his photos he's sometimes wearing purple tops, plus "purple city".

Just wondering.

Gemmy, Ginz, Guido, and Kahn are all pushing that sound. Bristol heads.

Joker is, and in my opinion will always be, the pioneer of the Purple sound. But this what they have to say about it:

These three artists go by the names of Joker, Gemmy and Guido, and have quickly been branded by both the media and their online fans as the "Purple Trinity," something that all three of them aren't entirely comfortable with. "I had a tune called 'Purple Moon,' which was kind of the beginning of the whole purple thing," Gemmy explains. "Honestly, I just believe that this is a media thing—just a people thing, innit? They just want to put it in the category of 'purple,' so I don't think it depends on what we sound like." Though Gemmy was the first of the three to mention the colour, it was Joker that cemented the term's usage when he spoke to Dub Studio about how imagery inspires him to create his melodious but sub-heavy tracks.

Crazy you mention that. I got Silkie's City Limits V.1 album on iTunes a moment ago and was playing this track when I opened the thread.

I like Beauty.
