noisy, clipping signal when recording through soundcard

Post by jittery » Sat Oct 08, 2011 2:08 pm

Hello everybodeh!

Just bought a new preamp & comp, but when running the signal through my soundcard, it just peaks, and i have to turn it all the way down, and if i turn up the mic signal on the soundcard it just gets noisy and clips.
I'm guessing that its the soundcards preamp thats causing the problem, since it propably still amplifies the signal coming from my preamp. Is there a way to turn off the build-in soundcard preamp?

Any recording gurus? :D

what's the soundcard, what's the output calibration from your pre, what's the input calibration to the card, etc, etc, etc...

Use differnt inputs. It sounds to me like you're using Mic level inputs with Line level gear. If so find the non TRS inputs on your card, or use the pad button.
