Getting the right things for me

Post by Extinct » Tue Oct 11, 2011 1:42 am

For a while now I've been wanting to produce. And I've set my mind for buying FL Studio. The problem is I'm not sure which edition to get. Fruity, or Producer. But the problems don't end there I'm also stumped on what kind of keyboard to buy. Any help to this is appreciated!
Thanks in advance! :cornlol:

Fruity edition then get your own VST's of your choice. You don't need a keyboard.

Oh that's great. Is there any other hardware/software I should look into buying?

A nice pair of studio monitors and a laptop man! that should sort you right out, as for vsts, Massive is a good one to start out with as I thought it was the easiest to get the hang of.

Don't start with Massive or any paid VST's. Start with 3x osc (comes with FL Studio), and study synthesis and use it until you know exactly what every knob and button does and have exhausted its creative potential. Then get a high-end synth (doesn't have to be Massive. Albino, Zeta, Sylenth, they're all good. Atlantis is full of features and is free.)

I wouldn't suggest fruity edition. Definitely producer edition or signature bundle. I have the bundle and love it.
...in my opinion

Explain your reasoning, why should I buy that version? Does it have better features?

Good idea, but afterwards when I do learn all the things, should I buy Massve(Albino, FM8, Slyenth, etc...) first or what?

If you do get a midi controller (keyboard) make sure you have a powerful enough soundcard or an interface like the Mbox, when you connect a midi controller with USB there can be latency.

As for FL, the bundle is worth it:
Sytrus (powerful fm synthesizer, and the best one FL comes with. I prefer fm8 but it's cheap in the bundle)
DirectWave Full Sampler (very powerful, nessesary if you'd like access to the full options of sampling)
Soundfont player (gives you access to a whole slew of instruments basically, I dont use it frequently tbh)
VideoPlayer (meh... Although zgamevisualizer is great for bouncing YouTube versions of your songs)
Maximus maximizer (the most amazing non-elitist compressor you can find, you'll probably grow out of it but it's really quite nice)
Hardcore Guitar effects suite (I've gotten cool sounds out of this, it's definitely fun)

You can very easily get away with the producer pack, but I'd get the bundle if you can afford it.

Does anyone know if producer comes with gross beat and newtone? They are both fantastic, gross beat is a trancegate and time based manipulating effect... I've made entire songs that NEEDED this patch. Newtone is FL's answer to melodyne which is awesome if you mess with vocals ever.

Seems, good. Maybe I'll get the Signature bundle if that's what you're talking about, and yes Producer does come with Gross Beats and Newtone!

I've done the 30 Fruity Loops trial, and I was hooked for it. So I decided I'm going to buy it. Plus I've seen many videos on it and the support seems great.
