Burial / Massive Attack Confirmed Release Date??
Re: Burial / Massive Attack Confirmed Release Date??
Haha oh well... I guess there just isn't a rational explanation.

I would pay a stupid amount for Speedball2. Lambeth toovishes wrote:I would pay 50 quid for that. Hell, I'd even pay 25 for Feral Witchchild alone. Sertiously.joeki wrote:I would happily pay 25 quid for an EP with :

Still, those discogs proces are way too muchThat's more than what Anti War Dub or Loefah's Jungle Infiltrator EP goes for.
Re: Burial / Massive Attack Confirmed Release Date??
I don't mind these tunes not getting a release, if you're looking at it from a cultural and artistic point of view.
That whole generation of producers comes from the pirate radio/non internet generation. I only witnessed the final moments of that scene but I can imagine that period having a great impact on an artists ethos. Especially if money isn't that much of an issue. It undoubtedly created a nostalgia similar to what many of us feel towards dubstep from the 04/05/06/07 era. It helped defining a production ethic.
Back then, you would hear tunes, dubplates, on pirate radio and they would never get released. If you were lucky enough, you'd have a recording on tape of the show and you could play them again until your tape was fucked. I believe not releasing these tunes is sort of a statement reminding us of that exciting period, when underground music was less of a commodity. When tunes were in fact still priceless. I sort of like this way of thinking and that's why I respect the decision to not release them. I believe kode9 when he says this isn't some contrived marketing scheme, but pure nostalgic honesty. Also, it could be that Burial just didn't fancy those tunes. I mean, did he not rework the second album completely in like a few weeks time because he simply wasn't happy with it?
Anyway, my generation sort of came up with the internet. But in my time there was still no facebook or youtube. We are very spoiled these days on the internet: we can still enjoy fragments of tunes and dubplates on YOUTUBE etc..whereas back then, you probably could hear a tune only once in your life at a night or on a radio show. I only lived the final breaths of that scene but even I can respect that tremendously.
It would be cool to rinse those full tunes out in high quality, but I understand and respect the decision. Dedicate this to the underground and all that.

Re: Burial / Massive Attack Confirmed Release Date??
I have to agree with you on there.
When I hear all those producers talk about how they experienced that period of pirate radio and tape recordings I always feel sort of envious of them for not having been able to experience that era myself like they had, just because I was still just a little boy back then.
Eventhough it was way more primitive and non-advanced than it is today, I still would've wanted to experience it.
