Wonder if Burials stock would go down if he spammed inboxes with "check me out" requests, gave out 320s, and posted WIPs... Or would the music still stand on it's own
The idea that everyone must have a soundcloud/myspace/facebook/twitter...tell everyone what they're doing all the time, promote, socialize and be available for questioning.... is fucking madness. Musicians and artists were doing just fine before the internet, so these checkboxes that they need to be ticked off against in 2011 is purely psychological. Its you putting your expectations on other people. Musicians and artists owe their followers absolutely nothing. If MA & Burial want to charge £150 for 3mins of audio, not being able to afford it, doesn't make it less artistic, nor less valuable. This need to equate art with a price point is missing the point completely.
Banksy can spray paint a piece on a wall, and suddenly the wall is worth $500,000 at auction. None of us will ever be able to afford a Banksy, but he's still one of the most powerful artists around. People will pay £3.50 for a pint that lasts 10min, but won't shell out £1.10 for an mp3 of a tune that lasts forever. this need to consume things instantly in our generation, is totally fucking up our value system.
