Having Issues With Formants in Massive

Post by raige » Fri Oct 14, 2011 2:38 am

so I have a sound going and when I play it on the keyboard it sounds fine, but when I play it in the arrangement it sounds like out of tune or something. it just doesn't sound right at all. I have a clip here of how it sounds all messed up. the sound I'm trying to go for is that wobble that's in doctor p's big boss. not the screech, but the the bubbly-kind of wobble.

thanks guys.

go to the voicing tab, under voicing click monophon instead of poly

I tried that before. I've had this issue working on past songs and I've tried everything including voicing, global, osc, filter, effects. everything. thanks for the replies though guys.

also I try bouncing it out to see if it'll bounce the standard sound and all I get is what I linked in the original post.

chicken sounds ftw! can't help with your massive issue, though. sorry.

It might be pitch bend. Not sure what you're using, but I know ableton sometimes gets stuck in a pitch bend.

I'm using Logic Pro. I am modulating the pitch of 2 oscillators with an lfo, but I don't think that's it. If I select the track in the arrangement it sounds fine, but if I have any other tracks at different speeds playing while I have the other track selected it sounds all weird again.

anyone else know any fixes? I noticed the same thing happens sometimes when I use a Band Reject or Band Pass filter if that helps at all.

That could be the problem if the depth of ur lfo is too great, would definitely cause it to sound out of tune.
Also how much are u detuning ur oscillators? This includes the modulation oscillator. You could be pushing it sharp or flat. Sounds flat to me but i haven't had much sleep.
Last thing I can think of is frequency shifter. I only ever mess with that in the context of the mix as it can put stuff way out of tune.

Yeh id say fiddle with the the amount and position of cutoff and maybe automate the problem oscilators pitch?

Is it a Midi Clip playing Massive? And if so does the edge of the clip touch the loop braces?

I know it's not that. and I tried changing the the lfo on the oscillators, but it didn't seem to work either. pretty much I went off what is shown in this video, but I get issues when I try to bounce the midi track. if anyone else knows any other ways to make this sound then I'd be more than happy to know. thanks guys.
