Haunted House DJ set/sound installation help

Post by viberous » Tue Oct 18, 2011 7:10 pm

Not sure if this is exactly a production question, so Mods please direct me elsewhere :W:

So I got commissioned to do a sound installation/dj set for a haunted house my University is putting on, and I'm super excited cuz I've never really heard of this happening anywhere around me. I was wondering if any of you have ever done such an event, and what was effective? I rock and ableton setup, so i'll be switching from more sound-design stuff to beat oriented content and everywhere possible. I've been looking to composers like Penderecki (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwaEOyOw9tk) and Stockhausen for more of the sound design aspect. In terms of producers, I'm looking for the really menacing and horrific to really get that "this is fucked up" feeling going on. My immediate thought was Broken Note, who has that dark industrial sound as well as weird noise producers like Xrin arms (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ex83HpPUT9Y) and The Processus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5HHP5lxb4g). SO, I was wondering if anyone has any insight into tracks, producers, or composers that are very dark, scary, and make you feel very uncomfortable? Sonically, what scares you?

Thanks!

p.s. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE "THE HEAVIEST FILTHIEST DROPS BLAH BLAH BLAH"....unless they truly are scary

The Widdler I guess...

I'm not into to dark music. But I could spend the next few hours on YouTube and Soundcloud and come back to you.

the mala remix of sinners is straight up menacing. Vex'd-Bombardment of Saturn is another really dark tune. Skream rottan/ruttun?
