paradigm001 wrote:@GVI your tune starts as soon as the page loads, just to let you know that could be annoying. Your track is novel and I like the bitcrushing of the song. The wobbles get a little repetetive. And maybee you have too many Izotope stutters on the vocal section, I think it would sound fine if you let it play out with a stronger beat. But If you like it then stick with it.
Sorry about the autoplay. The software I use has auto play set to true so when I paste a link from Soundcloud on my desktop its autoplays. I don't use Izotope either :p Feedback much appreciated.

well thats cool that you made the edits yourself at least. I cant say that about me I dont have the patience really. And that autoplay thing sucks. I dont know why your software does that. Usually when I upload to soundcloud it never autoplays. I didnt even know it could do that. I like your tune though and hearing new things.

Anyway heres my progress on a tune Im working on

I dont know where to take it next really. Do I add a bridge cause I didnt have a dropout, is this the dropout, should I go back into the chorus(MAIN BODY) and then repeat it how many times. The tune is allready almost 4 minutes.

You know, I actually like that into and the drop isn't bad either. The part where the string go from string, to vocal ahhhhh is nice. The gentle build up with the high passed drums too. Around 2:14 it starts to go off beat a little. Not sure if that's a hiccup on your part. I've had it happen when the midi messages get a bit of latency and I don't realize.

I really can't advise on your track structure, that's totally up to you. I don't always use bridges or breakdowns though. Just depends on how the track flows and how I feel at the time.

Your very good about picking up that latent sound. Actually it was produced by the Stutter Edit program so it comes in late. I might render it to a wav and stick it in there so you dont hear it. But Im totally aware of it. You have good listening skills!

While I like the drums and the bass sound, I can't really praise your bass arrangement, it's a little... boring. Maybe add a lead if you don't want to change the bass.

Here's something I am working on currently.

@Thierry D -

Bro, I think this is your first post, so I'ma let you off easy and just tell you that before you put a track for feedback, you're required to leave at least 2 comments on other people's tracks, either in your post, or on their individual soundclouds. That being said, I will now check your track out. I like the drums and the synth at the intro. Could use more of a buildup, and definitely a drum change, as the drums get a tad repetitive over time, albeit still interesting. I like your wobble synth, but I feel like it's underused. All in all, a 3 out of 5, for me at least. Needs some changeups, and some dynamics.

@Brisance -

One thing that I'll comment on is the clarity of your synths. They're beautifully clear and very well mixed. Even on my half-ass speakers, I can still very clearly hear it like I'm in the room with you producing it, so mad props on your actual production mixing. As for the arrangement, I like the synthwork, the deep delicious bass, the smooth percussion... it's all pretty damn good. What are you going for in terms of genre?

And now, mine. I have to say, this is the first time I've ever brought something so far as Mixing Stage, as opposed to the endless composition and arrangement phases, but this one is finally almost complete. I'm quite proud of it, but all in all, it could use a little help with mixing and arrangement. Tell me what you guys think! :]

@R3N3gAD3:
I love Your drums, the arrangement in particular, the bass is great, too, love, how multilayered it sounds. Altho, the drums sound way in the background, You might want to make them a bit louder. You could send your stems over as well, I'd try to mix it down(gimme a PM).
All in all, a really nice and catchy tune.

@paradigm001
Whoa, nice, pretty tune, massive bass and great effects, love how you used something like buffer override or similiar all over, makes it really interesting. The variation of different parts is great too, keeps things interesting and makes it seem like a full on piece. I'll whine about the drums though, namely the kick and snare pattern, which gets a little boring(especially in the intro).

As for myself, thanks for reviewing the tune, renegade, you made me blush :oops: I owe all the clarity to this forum, especially Bob Macc.

@R3N3gAD3 - Try to not go overboard with the reverb; it's an easy tool to abuse. The mix sounds pretty clean; it could use some dirt though. It sounds very clean.

@paradigm001 - Nice wubs. They could use some tweaking though, timing wise.

This is one I've been working on on and off for quite a while. I've wanted to finish it but didn't know where to take it. I sketched this arrangement out but I'll shut up and let you listen.

I notice even the most subtle sounds can make a difference with the mix. There is no strict formula as to implementing dirt into a mix [lots of room for creativity there], but here are some ways I do it:
-Add a soft tape hiss almost quiet enough to where you can't hear it.
-Add a reverb covering all of the mix, decrease some of the higher and lower freq's, and set the gain very low, to the point where you almost can't hear it.
-Add properly EQ'd reverbs to each of the tracks very subtle-y [all the little reverb sounds accumulate nicely if done right].
These are m examples, but you can get a lot more creative with it. I'd love to get my hands on some sort of computer-to-oldtape-to-computer system majig, coz digital lofi sucks.

@voodeedoo

sick track, i like how your build up transitions into the drop.. as for where i would take it, the second build-up seems like it is leading in a dubstep direction so perhaps you could make it a half house half dubstep track

@brisance

funky track, i love the style. its got a nice experimental aspect to it that i really like in bass music. for improvement, i would play with the rhythm a bit and see what you can come up with.

here's a track I started this week, going in a grimier direction

@Brisance i love the Experimental style your going for but i feel that the track need's some more layering be it on the perc's or more synths! keep it up i love the vibe it shares

@R3N3gAD3 the only thing i dont like about your track is the mixdown everything else is really well done! Just work on the eq'ing make sure there's no clash.

here's mine this is an almost done project missing a mixdown and mastering let me know what you think!

Reviewing as I listen:

@Brisance: Beginning could do with some atmosphere (possibly some reverb on the hats) Interesting melody, keeping me interested, kick hits beautifully, lovely sampled drums, levels are a tad off. Nice SUB!!!!!!!!!! How did you synthesize that sub? Would love some tips. Drum rolls are sweet, whole things got too much space however, (maybe this was what you were going to). Wow digging this vibe man, never heard anything quite like that, maybe fill it out slightly with some pads? Show me the finished thing!

@R3N3GADE - Nice opening mix, hah gucci gucci sample. Nice verb, nice tom roll in there too. Waiting for the drop... oooh spooky! Would definitely drop this at halloween, may I? I'll let you know how it goes down. Your kick is kinda weak, could do with some beefing up in my opinion. Here comes the second drop, nice riser... Feel like it's a LITTLE bit of an anticlimax. Could hit harder, would drop it at the few halloween parties im playing at though if you'd let me for sure!

@Voodeedoo - Opening's very deadmau5 :S But it's old deadmau5, which is good deadmau5, nice use of sidechain, haha cool pitch down nice idea... getting dirty... where's the SUB??? There it is! Sweet vibe!! Nice wobs man, great synth control, liking this, I think the cymbals could be slightly louder to add to the intensity. Holy shit cool breakdown. Great LFO control. I like this it's different, very jump up, good job. Hah and back into the progressive deadmau5, cool! Piano section, gorgeous, did you compose the melody yourself? Mixdown could definitely use work throughout the entire tune, extremely muddy my end. Get an EQ on there.

@AudioSoma - Nice atmosphere to start, cool pads. Very chilled out so far 50 seconds in. OK nice, love how the bass is playing with the pluck, nice groove. Good job man!

@Globalz - Insane opening! How did you achieve that reverbed kick opener type thing, some awesome fx going on here, wow there's the vocal... oh my again I'd LOVE to drop this for halloween if you'd let me have a download I'd let you know how it goes down of course! Shit's spooky! Great strings in here, what do you use for those? Haha the break at 1.25 is too sick, there's some problems with your sidechain compression everything goes too quiet for a split second need to fix that. Like this though, definitely a halloween vibe!

Here's my WIP guys. I'm singing on it (for the first time) pitched down a few semitones. Wanted to go for a kinda dirty dubby 80s electro robot kinda vibe. What do you think? Any feedback on any aspect really appreciated! Thanks!

I'd be honored :] Drop me a line on Soundcloud, and I'll send you the drum track and the full track. My partner (in music xD) is coming back this weekend and he's the mixmaster, so the drums should be a bit more pronounced when he's done, and the drop a bit heavier, so after this weekend, I'll send you the better version.

Still learning ;] I'm so used to doing live sound for bands and such, and mixing for dubstep and edm in general is very different.

@JTL Intense intro man...that is HUGE. Can't fault it.

@Globalz the intro has some out-of-key notes. but a very nice track.

@-AudioSoma- Nice atmospherics! Sound design could be done a bit better. I like the vibe and the swinginess.

Here's my latest mastering attempt. Unfortunately DM thinks I ruined his track...I want to know what you think...it sounds worlds better IMO. I'm still no pro mastering engineer, though.
Soundcloud

THERES also the track in my sig...its not dubstep...not sure what it is, but its all played and meant to be a soundtrack for a short (4 minutes) film. need it done by saturday

@globals Goddamn shits sick
I like how you don't go overboard with the wobs
Bumps really nice
I'm stoned right now so this might make sense but your bass is really stretchy
9/10

@Voodeedoo it's filthy and I like the idea
High passed verb on your snare would sound sick
IMO i don't like how in the mellow parts the snare plays with the kick underneath
Melody is dope and it flows awesome

@R3N3GAD3 I love it
It's eerie as shit
The cymbals could be a lot softer and not have such a harsh attack
I like the acoustic kick but it could be more a thump than a click for the chill stuff

Soundcloud
it's brostep don't hate
OPINIONS ON SUB BASS? IS IT TOO QUIET?

@Mammoth - if I'm being harsh but honest, drop leaves so much to be desired. I need a deep bass going with the melody, like a delicious wwwwwwwWWWWAAAAAAH, wwwwwwwwWWWWAAAAH

oh just kidding, there it is at the second drop. Put that at the beginning. You need more percussion too. A rule of thumb I go by is if it sounds too empty, it is. Throw in a cowbell every now and then, and always have something at the start of every 4 count, like a beep in the key, or a certain sound, but psychologically, you grab onto those sounds at the start of every measure and your brain latches onto that, and it makes it groove about 50 times more. Always give things a badass drum groove, with no spaces, except at drops. Listen to mine, and hear the airy moaning girl. It's at the start of... either every four count or two count, but it makes you perk up when it's not there anymore, so you pay attention. Also, listen to the beginning drums on mine, and listen for the woodblock, the hi hat, the moaning, snare, kick, toms, and weird little sounds all over. Never too much percussion.
