Re: Dubstep Doc
so basically the 'dcoumentary' is just walking around a nightclub asking people their opinions on dubstep? how is that good or interesting?
why not get interviews with producers/DJs etc and get a proper idea of the scene in america (which would actually be interesting) rather than just chatting to gurning randomers?

Re: Dubstep Doc
I suppose that the idea is thats there are sides A-F... I enjoy exploring subcultures that are born from music and I find that dubstep breeds some of the most unique groups of people and effectively brings them together. It's some of the most hypnotizing music I have ever heard, and it seems that way for a lot of people. Most of the people on this forum are captivated by certain sounds, and the frat boys down the street are captivated by another. Regardless its all under the umbrella of "dubstep" - a musical genre that I find to be both relatively unheard of by the masses and wildly misunderstood (even by myself). I have been attempting to get in touch with Mary Anne Hobbs, and almost shot and interviewed Mala here in Boston. The idea is to hopefully one day create something both visually stunning and auditorially mind-blowing, taking the viewer through the genre from grimy basement shows to massive concert venues. I am not making this documentary for the eliteists, nor am I making it for the idiots who think Skrillex invented dubstep. I am attempting to explore the genre on all fronts... this is just the beginning (an unfair representation I understand, but nevertheless a beginning).leyenda303 wrote:When do we get to see side B doc? And for the record, I wrote "a dubstep" as a joke.

Re: Dubstep Doc
Appreciated, but for the record I am here to learn, not be chastised. This forum represents the "upper crust" - if you will - of dubstep culture. I need this side, as well as the other to create a fair assessment of what the genre is doing to human beings around the world, not just the people who know what "real dubstep" is.topmo3 wrote:what an assload of shit. little downs to whoever the dickhead may be who came up with this.![]()

Thats exactly why despite the overly harsh criticism on this website, I am here talking to you guys. I want to understand this genre, not make assumptions. That's not what I do in my everyday life, and my art is not different.prism wrote:OP, arrange your own perspective and insight about it all before you attempt the doc man. might take a while but it will be worth it

Yeah, gotta say, didn't seem that promising when I watched the first clip, but will reassess my opinion when it's completed. Look forward to seeing it when it's done!paperfortress wrote:Thats exactly why despite the overly harsh criticism on this website, I am here talking to you guys.
