Wiggle I like that you and I have very similar opinions on this dubstep genre. it was olnly 7 years ago i was at some random dubstep night in clockwork Bristol and downstairs had some insane mothafuckin bass wobbling shit I never heard before and I just came up on some great x which was rare back then. i was like WTF is this? must a been a couple years later and someone showed me Burial. looked into dubstep and I've definitely become selective in terms of what I listen to.

ok.. so im a newbie. got into dub about 2yrs ago when i accidentally came across skrillex. i fell in love with the chaotic, aggressive and extreme nature of the sound and have been hooked ever since. i spend a lot of time on beatport and youtube trying to find 'good' dubstep, and when i accidentally happened upon this site i was excited to educate myself on the roots of dubstep and what the community of fans of the genre consider to be good dub. ive been listening through a lot of the tracks posted in this thread and to be honest, im more than a little confused and disappointed. most of these tracks seem overly simplistic and frankly.. boring. where is the chaos? where are the layers upon layers of contrasting sound?

my rating for this 'guide to dubstep' : i give it a mehhhh

i live in san francisco and go to dubstep shows usually 2-3 times a month, mostly at clubs but also some of the bigger venues. i am usually rolling balls and love to dance. maybe i will be considered a philistine by this online community, but i can honestly say that love this genre with all of my heart

I will be honest. when I first got into dubstep there was a lot of this 'in your face' heavy stuff going around and I started to get into that. my favorite artists were caspa, emalkay, sub focus etc and I even dropped a skrillex song in a dj set. but over time I found the more I went to dubstep nights around london and delved deeper into the genre I began to be able to get bored of the super high pitch screaming wobbles and the increased amount of sweaty moshing kids at raves. I now appreciate the deeper stuff more now and am just getting into labels like deep medi / black box and am gaining respect for mala, loefah, pinch, lost and man more of the artists that are being showcased in this thread. I still lean towards more of a middle ground though and listen to the stuff that some might label as 'generic kick snare wobble'.

tbh i only got into dubstep several months ago, but im rather familiar with todays scene. since then, everyone at my school's been overhyping about skrillex and ukf (which occasionally puts up a decent old vibe), and its really given people the wrong impression. it doesn't annoy me that they're listening to 'brostep' or 'transformers dry-humping' but it does annoy me when, for instance, i bring up people like loefah, distance, 2562 or pinch and they claim its not dubstep or 'its not as dirty as the sex me and your mum had last night'. its good that dubstep's getting more recognition, but too many people are getting the wrong idea about what the genre is about i reckon.

The stuff on most of these posts is the deep, vibey dubstep but you've forgotten the hard core bass-drop dubstep. I know mala was the first dubstep eva, but this new stuff is wicked!! I'll put some of the best from each type of dubstep in a convinent heading for you.

I totally agree with you and if you're a newb what does that make me?? I found out about dubstep only 5 months ago and I LOVE IT SOOOO MUCH!!! AHHHH!!!
I watched this vid by christina grimme with her rockin out to skrillex and im like aaaaahhhhh love it so then i like listened to him for the rest of the day, and then i discovered some more dubstep and gave "dub fever" to most of my friends. I've also noticed a lot of hate for skrillex on youtube and this site, and just because hes gay and has a very um.... unique haircut I love him more than anything in the world and I think that everyone thinks that he's trying to hog dubstep and take all its glory for himself, when hes not. He has his OWSLA label to support other dubsteppers, and you can't judge someone by their sexuality.
