whether or not that is the case i really didnt enjoy their set at DMZ (and it was not just me who thought that), obviously he's a legend in the scene and has put out some game-changing tunes that i still love. i just didnt enjoy his set at DMZ, OP asked for opinions and i gave mine, i fail to see why this is so problematic, this is a discussion board after all

lets get back on topic, iv seen them in real life a number of times TBH.
Saw Skream and Benga this last Saturday at NYC. They dropped Flux Pavilion, what sounded like a Skream remix of Manix's "Feel Real Good", Smack Your Bitch Up, a remix of "Killing in The Name", and a Coki track, among other things. They also played a tune that was PURE house. Definitely an eclectic mix of the old and new, overall pretty fun but definitely tear our centered. Hope this helps. Will be seeing them at Fall Massive in DC and am hoping for some deep tunes, we'll see
Even a few years back when they were playing decent stuff they were poor technical DJ's (especially Skream). Both have made excellent tunes in their time, but I wouldn't go out of my way to hear them DJ now because I don't really appreciate a lot of their selection or technical DJ skills.
And before anyone chimes in like I'm talking sacralige- I have done loads to support them by paying to see them and buying their records through the years- especially at the start when that support could have made a difference, have been on south london pub/club dancefloors with less than 10 people listening to them and buying their tunes since their big apple days.
But I feel however you tart it up that they have almost become the definition of sell-out, because whatever they say I can't believe that they just play what they would like to play- they play the most popular tunes to get to the biggest crowds (while sticking to a roughly 'dubstep' label). That's fine- they get huge crowds going to see them crowdsurf to sweet shop now so am sure they don't care too much that I'm not in the crowd looking moody!

ahh fuck off man, fucking pure house, house in its purest form!
OP i wouldnt go see them if i were you, what id do is move to a better place that has other than shite dubstep. you may aswell just stop listening to any of their tunes too, just get it out of your system and stick to pure dub, and house of course!

I was thinking I should just go because it's probably the closest thing to Dubstep I'm going to get in Canada (brostep infested man, it's crazy up here). I just don't want to hear Skrillex being dropped, it's going to kill me if I see Skream do that to me. :/
Yeah I grabbed tickets for the show in Calgary too. Should be half decent I hope, although hearing his interview where he called Skrillex "my boy Skrill" was a bit disheartening to say the least.
Last time I saw Skream was at Outlook and he was probably one of the worst sets I saw... it's a shame because when I used to see Skream on a line I would try and see him without a doubt but his sets these days are not my thing at all, its my fault though because I am still stuck in the 2006 - 2009 music

yeah, and according to your train of thought, because skream is one of the biggest names going, the only opinion worth having is to try and dig into him because he's popular, and because he doesn't fit into your taste box. jog on.....

how would you feel if someone asked how much you're worth as a DJ on an international forum with thousands of members? would that feel good? this thread isn't about money, but i guarantee that none of you would like to be on the receiving end of this sort of discussion. people have a right to ask questions, be critical, speak their mind, but if the question is set up the way it was what do you expect will happen, when you're talking about one of the biggest names in the sound?

how would you feel if someone asked how much you're worth as a DJ on an international forum with thousands of members? would that feel good? would $25 feel right? would $10 feel right? people have a right to ask questions, be critical, speak their mind, but if the question is set up the way it was what do you expect will happen, when you're talking about one of the biggest names in the sound?
It's really very simple, OP asked for opinions on whether he should go see skream and benga and i said that the last time i saw them i thought they were a bit shite, i'm still struggling to see where the problem with that is... as i have said before, i still love plenty of their tunes and play them alot, i just wasnt very impressed at DMZ
i doubt either skream or benga going to loose much sleep over the fact that 1 person expressed a negative opinion on just one of many thousands of sets they have played over the years

first of all, its not 1 person in this thread having an opinion, and you miss the point completely if you think this is about negative/positive opinions on the internet.
are you kidding me? they get shots fired at them all the time. this thread is nothing, in comparison, and trust me they have flights to catch and airports to land in, leave alone worries about who wants to have a go at them on DSF!
the point i'm making is that there's a lot of cowards on this forum hiding behind screens, ready to take amateur shots at popular DJ's for a little bit of net attention. its all those people, i'll always take issue with. its one thing to say that someone who DJ's to 100 people on a friday night is worth X amount of your time/money. its another thing to say that a DJ that plays for 5,000 to 25,000 people on any given week, is worth x amount of your time/money. those two DJ situations just don't compare.
Seckle I really really don't get it. The guy asked a question, he got a honest answer. There's no need to be FUCKING FREUD to understand that. Would you rather have us all smiling and brown-nosing and then boycott all their shows ? If we don't express an opinion how the fuck are they supposed to know what people on here think about their sets ?? And if they don't give a shit then all the better for them !!! But at least OP ain't gonna blow 30 quids to hear Flux Pavilion.

He said 'worth it', who knows if he meant worth the cost or worthwhile as in whether he will have a good time or not. Nobody said Skream or Benga were worth $1 or $100. People just gave their opinions on whether they felt it was worthwhile going to see them!

I don't understand what this has to do with this thread. There's no comparison going on and money's not been mentioned. It's just a straight up, honest question as far as I can tell.
My take is thus: OP has Objekt as his avatar and mentioned a dislike of Skrillex, so from that we can deduce - at least partly - his musical inclinations. Based on my experiences of Skream playing out, and his radio shows, I certainly wouldn't go and see him or Benga. Combining my experiences with my assumptions on OP's taste I would probably say give it a miss. But then I live in London so I don't really have to worry about missing anything decent because something amazing is always just round the corner. So maybe I'd say chance it regardless.
I think it's fairly safe to assume OP wouldn't go to see them if there was more choice on offer, but them's the breaks. I'll be interested to hear how it went!
