You're right, but El-B did some 4x4 stuff. Some of the earlier Groove Chronicles was 4x4 (although Noodles was the driving force there really), El-B collab'd with Karl Brown on some 4x4 tunes though, production outfit called El-Tuff, probably a bit too bumpy/funky to be 'dark' though!

My point wasn't that GC made 'dark' 4x4, which they didn't particularly, more that they weren't strictly a 2-step outfit.

Oh I know, my point was that up until that point, all the 4x4 stuff of theirs that I'd heard up until then was on the lighter bouncier side. More Todd Edwards'esque. :0 Thanks for the all links, though.
