in fact, while i'm here, this thread is another example of how some of the more unusual releases get fewer views than they deserve. almost as if people are mostly interested in the same 4 or 5 producers, or 2 or 3 labels or djs or whatever at a time. still, those that know KNOW

dunno man....this is an interesting debate/topic u keep on raising though. There are probably a number of major factors and a whole bunch of smaller influences that make a person limited and un-adventurous in their tune selections or musical tastes.

I've no doubt that not being a "digger" (i.e someone who thrives off picking up wierd or unique looking, feeling & especially sounding pieces of heavy, pink, blue, black, small, large, shiny, floopy ,bootleg, special edition, backward groove...pieces of wax) makes a difference to how often someone really discovers and appreciates something unusual or mad sounding.

More than that though the hype machine and spoon feeding that the media divulge in is alot more extreme than it used to be. Blogs, forums and the mainstream magazines all have either a limited target audience or are basically regurgitating shit they've considered as "now" from else where.

Radio 1 clearly doesn't have the influence it used too, hence why gradually over the last 5 or so yrs the content of its late night programs has become more "safe" and have far less of a uniquie vibe to (each of)them..... (R.I.P John peel eh.)

Not enuff rocknroll attitude risk taking muthafuckers or musically educated dj's/producers/journos around i reckons. The ones that are, stand out a mile......

just quickly coming back to this - it's nice when there's a genuine consensus about music but personal discovery feels really rewarding to me. self-education too
this Stillcold record arrived in a local indie where I check through most of the new vinyl releases each week, I asked the boss what it was and he was like 'dunno' so I had to check it out. I've played it out 2 or 3 times since to a great response and not every other dj in town is playing it like certain 'big' tunes at any time.

this is a ridiculously great record. so varied. so much range. and almost no hype. funny how that works.
