DMZ Question(s)
DMZ Question(s)
After listening to some all Mala mixes that I think I may have found off here, I've decided I need all the DMZ / Mala records in my life.
I've been searching Discogs and nearly all of them are £30 + .
Now I'm happy to pay that for a couple but ideally I want them all.
So my questions are....
Do any of these tunes ever get repressed?
Are any of these records available on mp3?
Also, are there any cheap gems that I'm missing out on, or are pretty much all these records rare & expensive.
Thanks.

Re: DMZ Question(s)
No represses, no mp3s.
Re: DMZ Question(s)
They are all rare and expensive basically... I am not sure if the older releases ever got a repress but I do know that they never will now. Only the 2 triple packs (Return II Space and Urban Ethics) have gotten a, or even several, represses and are still available in some record stores, but for the older single 12" plates Discogs really is the only place to buy them and yeah, it'll cost ya.
As far as missing out on gems, digital mystikz have had their first release on Big Apple records which is a superb record (also expensive) and I'm not sure how familiar you are with all of this but Mala is the head honcho of the DEEP MEDI Musik label which he has also released on. I suggest you check out it's catalog as well.
Edit: btw, some, if not all, of the single 12" releases did get a digital release on Bleep.com some years ago, but that was just for a short period of time. However, the triple pack Urban Ethics also got a digital release and I believe that it's still available on mp3 in several digital retailers.

Re: DMZ Question(s)
Yeah yeah sound.
Yeah I have a few Deep Medi records already, excellent label I didn't know Mala was running it though. That guy really is a don is this genre.
My only worry was forking out £30 + for something on discogs and then they all end up getting repressed, but it looks like that isnt gonna happen.
I'm sure I read somewhere that DMZ isn't releasing tunes anymore on the label, have I just made that up?

Really? That seems a bit odd.incnic wrote:DMZ only release on Swamp81 from now afaik.

Re: DMZ Question(s)

And don't worry. DMZ is still active (there is a third triple pack coming soon) It's just that it seems like Loefah (part of DMZ along with Mala and Coki and owner of the Swamp 81 label) has stopped releasing on DMZ.
But Mala and Coki haven't so we will still see releases by them in the future.
But yeah, if you want to buy a DMZ record, just go for it. They wont get a repress.

Re: DMZ Question(s)
There was a Loefah interview from a couple years back where he said he wasn't sure where the label was going, you mighta seen it there? Really good interview anyways if you've not read it - essentially a snapshot of Loefah, Kryptic Minds, and Youngsta shaping the "new old sound" - a lotta producers came through on a similar vibe after One of Us got released. But in any case Vishes is right there's still plenty of music come from the label over the last year (Education/Horrid Henry which is really cheap on discogs, Return II Space, and Urban Ethics which was even made accessible to the digital gang).Totan wrote:

Re: DMZ Question(s)
Your not the only one collecting the DMZ records. Only just started and got 21,13,14 and urban.
There are a few mala record on ebay at the moments i believe they are cheaper starting price than the cheapest on discogs. If i had the money i would have got blue notez already but its not my time

Re: DMZ Question(s)
mate, i've been trying to collect all of them for two years...good luck lol...i've spent dough, real dough...to get some of them, so just prepare to get bumped differently...but if you're like me, in the end the music will matter more than the money you paid for it so it'll be alrite in the end, well that's what i tell myself anyway lol
all i need now is 1, 3, 5, 6 , 7 (a mint version, the one i got was listed on discogs as being VG),11 and 13
if you're really about collecting them remember there's two versions to return II space, i don't know what the prices are like now on the picture disc version but i was lucky enough to get it when people were selling it for cheap

Re: DMZ Question(s)
Of course I am the same, I will quite happily spend the money to get the record in my collection. Its all about great music for me, I just wish I was more into it at the time when they first got pressed so I could of picked them up then
The latest one I was able to get on release was Education / Horrid Henry, and typically it's one of the only releases that I'm not too keen on.
Stupidly I sold Haunted / Anti War Dub when I drifted away from the dubstep and d&b scenes. Not one of my finer moments. Glad I didn't sell much else. Just checked discogs and it was released in 2006. 5 fucking years ago, where does the time go.

Re: DMZ Question(s)
Is it just me that thinks Digital Mystikz best stuff ISN'T on DMZ?
Misty Winter, Earth A Run Red, I Wait, Pathways, All Of A Sudden, Changes, Forgive, all absolute badman tunes and not on DMZ. Don't get me wrong, DMZ is one of the best labels out there in terms of content, and Haunted/Anti-War Dub is deservedly legendary, and Return II Space is beyond next level, but just prefer the songs I named to the other stuff on there.

saying their best stuff isn't on DMZ is a bit strong imo, but certainly there are fantastic DMZ tunes on other labels. The soul jazz ones just got repressed so you can get them for cheaps!garethom wrote:Is it just me that thinks Digital Mystikz best stuff ISN'T on DMZ?
